A Shakespearian sonnet written for my English class. It has to do with my 2008 NaNo novel: Reese -- the narrator -- was tricked and confused in the first book by Beckett -- the recipient of the poem. Then when Reese finds out about this, Beckett asks him if he would save Beckett's people.

I am not a poet.

Why does the darkness come so fast –
So fast that time seems a blur on the sea?
Nothing that comes from light will ever last,
And love and laughter fade to memory.
Why does it have to be me who saves you,
Who frees you from the illusions you make?
I have no hope, no chance to make it through
In your world, where my every thought is fake.
Why do I want to leave, yet stay as well?
I can make you whole again if I want.
But time cannot heal the wounds from your spell,
And I see the scars in the thoughts you haunt.
But if the fate of your world rests with me,
Then let me die before your end would be.
