MAN HATER

Sita hates men. She still manages to end up sharing a flat with her best female friend's brother, Brian. Let's put it this way: will Brian be successful?

Sita is one of the fiercest, toughest and most rebellious protagonists I have ever written – I hope you enjoy her sharp tongue and this story! The next chapters will be far longer than this one – this one is just for starters.

CHAPTER 1

Sita marched into the lecture hall, her enormous dark eyes searching for her best friend Kate.

She pointedly ignored a male student in the front row who seemed to think that she was searching for a free place. He removed his jacket and backpack from the seat next to his as he watched her look around the hall like a hawk.

“Excuse me – the seat over here is not taken yet,” he called to her, giving her a friendly smile.

“I do not have time for such frivolities,” she answered loftily, directing a cold look at him.

He stared, his smile disappearing.

“Okay, fine, whatever,” he said.

“Sita!” Kate waved at her friend, managing to draw her attention, “I’m over here!”

Sita squeezed her way past a group of chattering students and headed for the seat Kate had reserved for her.

“Thanks,” she said, greeting her best friend with the usual three-kisses-on-the-cheeks-routine.

“Found a flat?” Kate asked eagerly.

“Nope,” Sita said lightly, placing her writing pad and pen on the table.

“Good, I’ve got news for you.”

“Good? That I’ve not found a place?” Sita asked, arching her eyebrows and smiling.

“No, good because maybe I can help you. Right, I’ve told you about my older brother, Brian.”

“Yes, you have.”

“Okay, he’s looking for a roommate – his former one is going to move out next week.”

“And you think that I’d make a good roommate for your brother?”

“Why not?”

“He’s a guy. A testosterone-riddled entity, even though he may be related to you.”

This time, it was Kate who arched her eyebrows.

“Fine,” she said coolly, “it was only an idea, Sita. Anyway, this attitude of yours towards men is getting annoying.”

“Yeah, yeah, yeah, logic suggests that not all men are assholes, but I’ve still got to meet a male entity who can prove this decidedly shaky suggestion,” Sita yawned.

“Look, Brian is my brother. He’s therefore quite well behaved. I’m sure he’s willing to steady the shaky suggestion. Anyway, he’s busy writing his doctorate, he’s like, five years older than you, he’s got a girlfriend – in other words, he won’t get on your nerves. I’ve told him you’re searching for a place. He’d like to meet you.”

“Have you also told him that I despise his gender?”

“I told him that it was just a temporary thing-”

Sita snorted.

“Yeah, right. Anyway…thank you, Kate, it’s very nice of you. I’ll think about it.”

“Your Majesty will have to make up that royal mind soon,” Kate hinted, her grey eyes glinting.

“Well…he is your brother, so he’s not just anyone,” Sita conceded, “so…okay…I’ll have a peek at your brother’s flat.”
