Letters Never Sent
Dear friend,
There's an envelope with your name
on it, sitting on my desk with
a half-hearted letter of congratulations
typed in size 12 font
In the back of my cupboard, buried under
a notebook or two and tucked
safely in an unmarked shoebox
is another letter that is hidden
from prying eyes.
And yours.
It's a letter about ending friendships
and laying blame; of late nights
when we used to talk about everything
-and how everything's now changed.
Signed with fragments of my heart
and a 'wish you well', it sits like a rock
at the bottom of the ocean. One day
I'll pluck up the nerve to hand it to you
(but not until we've fallen irreparably,
irrevocably apart.)
Love, always,
me.
