Help Me Forget You

Help me forget you
Help me wash away the longing
Erase you from my memory
Put myself out of misery

How did it become like this?
That I see you everywhere?
Think of you when I wake
Dream of you when I sleep

It was like yesterday when I met you
Perfect stranger, none the wiser
Yet now you’ve become so much more
A thread of my being, intertwined

My heart skips a beat every time you smile
The crease of your lips thawing my heart
I become but a fool in front of you
Stuttering and mumbling, and not myself

Your laughter fills the air and my mind goes blank
And for a while all is good, all is forgotten
But then I walk alone, the cold biting in
And I remember my place on this Earth

So help me forget you now
Help me wash away my misery
Not to forget you but to not miss you
To know you and not long after you…
