PREFACE
Nothing has changed in my life over the past ten years, and yet, my whole life has changed. I still have a father, and a mother, and, even though I didn’t see them much, I still have an older brother and sister. Christopher is finishing his final year of college, away at Michigan State on a football scholarship that he had won during high school. I can’t help picking on him whenever he comes home; he’s studying automotive engineering, and playing football. He is definitely an all around guy.
Now, my older sister, she’s a bit harder to keep tabs on. When she moved away ten years ago, I was only seven. She had told my parents something about the University of Arizona offering the programs for her course of study, and she could get an amazing deal. But I knew better; I’m in on the secrets. After all, if it hadn’t been for my abduction, I don’t think Andy would have ever met Scott, or the Az fellow that she always tells me about.
She doesn’t talk to my parents as much as she does me – her voice is higher, smoother now that she’s a “mature” vampire. She tells me that she can stay awake during the day now, and that all of the myths about being burned alive by the sun don’t apply. She says that she just gets horrible sunburn, which isn’t that difficult to pass off in Arizona, I imagine.
I suppose I’ll see soon enough, hm?

I closed the small notebook, tucking it into my carry-on bag. I secured the tray into the back of the seat in front of me, and settled back in my seat. I looked out of the window, and all I could see was darkness. My plane was due to land in Flagstaff’s Pulliam Airport at ten after nine, and I was restless, just anxious for the last twenty minutes of my insufferably long flight to be over.
I turned the overhead light off, and pulled my feet up onto the seat with me. I tried ignoring the snores of the man sitting next to me, and somewhere in front of me, there was a baby crying. I rolled my eyes, and I knew exactly how the baby felt – trapped.
I pursed my lips. My parents had to wait until my senior year for their early retirement, didn’t they? I subconsciously crossed my arms over my stomach. It’s not that I didn’t like my sister, but I would have rather graduated from Ives Wyse High School with all of my friends.
I sighed, and looked out the window again, waiting for Flagstaff, Arizona to come in to view.
