An un-jealous joy
So rare, in this tropical desert
But here it is
Blooming like moonlillies
Radiating their presence
In defiance of chance
Look,
Look at the cactus man
What a strange stance, man
But not that unusual, I suppose,
Regarding his countless brothers
Dancing on the hill
There's armadillos and vultures
Sage brush and scorpions;
It looks like someone
Let the weird kids hear about the party
Laughing, I turn from these comrades
And stare at the full moon, above the dune
What?
What do you have to say of me ,
Moon-
Most dreary of all actors,
Situated as though before a stage?
It just grins back
And the stars sprinkle glitter
Like too-sharp snow
Icing the oasis in an ephemeral surrealism
A cloud passes over the night sky
Blanketing the shy zodiacs
And we're no longer motionless
In a treaty of acceptance, all rise to dance
Assuming the cactus-man stance
And we're singing as we prance
Parading in a field of radiance
And we're blooming like moonlillies
Radiating their presence
In defiance of chance
