James slid into his car slowly, thousands of thoughts racing through his head, clashing against each other in a never ender battle between good and evil.

His blue eyes stared at the road ahead of him, his knuckles pale from holding into the steering wheel for dear life.

His hair was ruffled and dirty, as it had always been, just like his life. He pushed his leather soles harder onto the gas pedal, slowly gaining speed. He chewed gum silently, the mint flavor resounding in his mouth. A four-way intersection lay just ahead of him, cars slowing to a stop at the crimson-red neon lights. James didn’t seem to care that the flashing sign was on red, so he sped through it. A Sedan blasted its horn at him before slamming into the side of his car, the impact sending the un-buckled James flying out his window and landing on the cold, wet concrete. The rain poured harder at that very moment, as if God was mourning his untimely demise. James’ eyes were rolled into his head, leaving nothing but white for the onlookers to see. The Sedan driver jumped out of his car door, sprinting over to James’ corpse. People gasped around him, shocked at the state he was in. But James, lost to the world, was falling into darkness, an eternal abyss of death.

James’s eyes jerked open as he got up from the warm grass he had been sleeping on. He got to his feet, his legs shaking slightly at the thought of what happened to him. Was he in heaven? He checked his body slowly for wings. Nope. Just his T-shirt and jeans were on his body, leaving his feet to be bare. He was in a meadow of some sorts, a clearing to a dark forest beyond. He could see nothing beyond the trees but glowing red eyes, creatures of the night staring straight at him, stalking their prey before feasting on it. He walked across the meadow to the tree line, were he could hear the creatures creeping closer to him. His feet kicked something on the warm grass, sending him toppling to the ground. He got to his feet and slowly paced back to where he was, finding a lantern just sitting there, apparently brought by himself. He picked it up and stared straight at the flame, ignoring the pain in his eyes. He placed it front of his face, held onto the warm sun against his skin for a second, and plunged into the forest.
