The Shadows of the Night

Cruel phantoms violate my sight,
Nightmares flock like crows around a pole.
Please dispel the shadows of the night!

Claws are grasping me, are holding tight,
Beaks are hacking, hacking hole on hole.
Cruel phantoms violate my sight.

What can turn the sullied jewel bright,
Who restore the flowers darkness stole?
Please dispel the shadows of the night!

Wrong once suffered cannot be made right,
Wrong once done is now beyond control.
Cruel phantoms violate my sight.

Let forgiveness dawn like morning light,
Rend the cobwebs clinging to my soul!
Please dispel the shadows of the night!

Tell me that the past has lost its might,
that the broken can again be whole.
Cruel phantoms violate my sight;
Please dispel the shadows of the night!
