Oh yeah, 'her.' Is she awake yet? I've been meaning to ask."

"No, not yet. She cannot wake in such a short amount of time."

"Seriously? I mean, she's been 'waking up' for how long? I mean, I don't even know why I'm worried. By the time she eventually does wake up I'll be rotting six feet under."

"Perhaps it is because asleep she is more trouble than you can imagine."

"Oh, yeah, huh. She has been really annoying lately. I mean, it's like I'm sleeping, having a nice dream then- bam- nightmare! I'm kind of getting sick of it. I mean, is that her evil plan, deprive me of a good night's sleep? I'm so tired I can't even work up the energy to be scared anymore."

"But you can work up the energy to talk."

"What?"

"Nothing. Listen, this is very important. We have to figure a way to stop her from waking up."

"Kill her."

"She's linked to us. There is a good chance we could all die."

"So? And what do you mean by 'we?' I'm not going to die. I'm still perfectly human. Besides, I really doubt that. Have you seen Jeremy? I know you have, and there is no chance in hell that he descends from her bloodline."

"Would you still be willing to chance that of us? Never mind, I know you would."

Shrug, silence. Whisper. "Again with the 'us.' Has he really still not realized that I'm not in their neat little story time group?"

"The vampires would never allow it though. They would kill you to protect themselves."

"Yeah, but see, I have this neat trick I use to avoid such situations: staying in the sun."

"What about night?"

"You hear of tanning booths? UV lights?"

"Really, now?"

Shrug. "Hey, I'm resourceful."
