I remember the look in her emerald green eyes. She knew what was happening to her and yet she had refused to tell me. The meloncholy look on her face gave it away though; she was dying and it was as if she thought hiding her death from me would make the pain sting less.

My mother had died that day. It's not like it was some sort of surprise though, she had been in and out of the hospital for breast cancer for the last six months of her life.
