Aidan
I'm grieving this boy I didn’t even know
For a number of selfless acts untold
With a smile in his heart and a gift on his tongue
He helped make sure she wouldn’t come undone
And yet for all the good things that he did
And all the happiness he did bring
Is now tinged with sadness and sleepless nights
With broken hearts and tear-filled fights
All that’s left here is his fading memory
Left burning with the pages of her diary
With a name like the fire he sparked in her heart
And the countless aid he did impart
I knew him only for the work that he did
Helping her to forget and finally live
The life that she deserved and so much more
He gave to her these things and then he swore
That he would not leave if she didn’t either
They clasped hands and held on tighter
She just couldn’t get him out of her head
“I love you so much, forgive me,” he said
I spoke to him the day before he died
And even then he tried to keep her alive
He spoke with a passion I had never known
Telling me not to let her suffer through it alone
And that’s the last time I heard from him again
He left the world with many a friend
But all I can think of is the girl I once knew
Wishing nothing more than her pain to be through
Some days she’s still struggling to breathe
Knowing that these thoughts won’t leave
She needs him almost as much as the release
But I wish he’d let go and let her rest in peace.
