"I wouldn't climb that fence if I were you," someone calls from behind me. I suddenly jump down from the fence and cross my arms.
"And why not?" I ask, looking over the half naked guy that stands before me. His hair is a chestnut brown and practically sticking up every which way as if he had just woken up. His eyes are a deep and royal blue, I've never seen a pair like them.
The boy's suntanned abdomen is exposed to the world because he is only wearing a pair of old faded blue jeans and his feet are bare and dirty. As I look him back over for a second time, I notice a small patch of chestnut brown hair under his bottom lip and a necklacethat is placed around his neck that holds a single bluish-grey shell.
"Because it's private property," he replies, looking me over as I had just done with him.
"So what," I say. "It's not like I plan on destroying the land, I'm just passing through it."
"Well maybe the property owner doesn't want you on his land."
"What's it to you?" I ask.
"It just so happens that I own that property," he answers.
"Do you really have a problem with me just passing through it?"
"Maybe..."
"Do you ever give straight answers?" I ask, getting a little irritated.
"Do you ever stop asking so many questions?" he asks in reply.
"No, I'm naturally a curious person."
"Well, I naturally don't give straight answers." He smiles at me slightly then runs toward the fence and jumps it easily with one hand.
"Show off," I mutter.
"I know," he says from the other side of the fence. "I've also been called annoying."
"I wonder why..." I say sarcastically. "Do you really live out here?"
"Yes," he replies. "All alone too, just the way I like it."
"Sounds boring," I say. "Don't you get lonely at all?"
"Again with the questions?"
"It's a habbit, my bad. Could I at least ask your name?"
"Danni, and you are?"
"Kara."
"How old are you Kara?" he asks, looking me over again. His gaze stops at my legs, which are bare because I always wear shorts when I run.
"Eighteen," I reply.
"Oh legal then," he laughs.
"Legal for what exactly?" I ask, glaring at him. Pervert.
"To vote," he mocks.
"That's not what you were thinking," I say. His eyes meet mine again.
"Really?" he asks. "And you know exactly what I was thinking?" I smile at him. "I didn't think so." The sound of a trumpet echos through the woods just then.
"Shit!" I exclaim. "I have to go."
"So soon?" he asks. "Just when I was getting used to being asked tons of questions. And to answer a previous question, yes I am lonely at times. I'll see you later." He smiles at me again, then I turn and begin to run back toward camp. "Wait!" I stop and turn back toward him.
"What?"
"I don't really mind if you want to pass through my land," he says. "Just try not to make a huge habbit of it. There's wolves out here." With that he laughs then takes off running through the trees.
