Listen to the New Wave

My goal was to produce a little story to each song I’ve chosen. I’ll try to stay between 200-500 words.

Lifeline – Angels & Airwaves
Her back was pressed onto the cold beige wall of her apartment. Her legs gave under her and she gently slid down and sat on the ground. She was weak, tired and depressed. She wanted her life to be over with. She believed she was alone, casted away from everyone around her. She hasn’t eaten in a long time as her depression has made her hate all food. In one hand she held the sharp knife. I’m sorry. She lifted the knife, ready to plunge it into her stomach and make her suffering all over. She was crying rivers. She was about to do it when a hand finally stopped her. She looked at her side when she noticed the pitiful face of a good friend.

“Don’t do it,” she said as tears slipped down her face.

“You left me,” she said as her arm went numb and the knife was taken out of her hand. She slid the knife out of reach and hit an obstacle with a loud thud.

“I know,” she replied.

“Give me a chance to prove myself to you, I need you,” she cried even harder. A pair of warm arms was wrapped around her tiny frame.

“I’ll give you a second chance, I love you,” she said in her neck. The thin pair of arms wrapped around her friend’s body. They lay like that without saying a word but listened to the other’s cries. The girl whispered her thanks over and over again. It was beginning of living again.

Build God, Then We’ll Talk – Panic! At The Disco.
What a pretty girl, long black hair and blue eyes and thin athletic legs. She’s wearing that little baby blue top she got for Christmas from her aunt last year and that short black skirt and sweater she got for this special occasion. Around her neck is a hidden crucifix. She took the last drag of her cigarette and walked in. There many flashing light and the music was loud. She made her way to the back ignoring the stares from the men around her. Her heels making loud taps as she walked. As she got to the back, she fixed her make up in her compact and changed into her pair of revealing lingerie. She looked into the mirror to show a very unhappy face before she walked out. She caught the eyes of a business man and she smiled to herself. She knew the game and she was going to get lucky.

“So, what are you?” she asked him over a few drinks.

“I’m a very successful lawyer,” he said. His hand made his way up her thigh as she moved in closer.

“You’re ready, let me take you to my room,” she said as she tugged on his tie. He smiled and followed her. Who knows what happened in that room. It was all over in the matter of 20 minutes and the man left her a generous amount before he went home to the Mrs.

As she walked down the street that night, a bit drunk but stable. She got the money she needed. Then she tripped on the sidewalk.

“Damn shoes,” she cursed. Her purse contents fell across in front of her. It was the worse place to be. Two men in uniform came along.

“Miss, where are you going dressed like that?” one asked. She looked up at them and didn’t say a word. They picked up her little black book and observed it. Inside were names, lists and amounts. They took her by the arm and brought her away. That was the end of her pitiful career.

Welcome To the End – Celldweller
There he laid in a dark world and no sign of vegetation. Is this hell? He just laid there for a few more minutes before he saw a young girl far away wearing white; clashing with the dark atmosphere around him. He stood up despite his wounds. His blond hair was tipped with red blood. He started to walk, following his curiosity towards her. As he went closer to her as he saw she was holding her hand out to him. He stopped in his tracks and looked at her in shock.

“Violet?” he said with a raspy voice. She smiled. It was really her.

Welcome home,” she said sweetly as he gave her his hand. “Let’s hide away before they see, I need so much to be alone with you. Come with me.” He followed her in a daze as her warm hand took hold of his cold one. “Please try to help me understand.”

He didn’t understand himself what he was going through. They walked together for a while.

“I wish we could,” she whispered “Go some place far away from here.” He looked at her. Her face was blank and showed barely any emotion.

“Violet, where are we?” he asked. She looked at him.

“We’re going towards the end,” she said. He still didn’t understand. What end? His legs were heavy but he continued to follow her. There was suddenly a breeze as he blinked a few times as saw a light at the end of the path. They walked closer and as they were at the beginning of the light. She turned around to face him. He put his hand to her cheek. Her eyes were full of tears. “Welcome to the end, my love.” And the light overcame him.

A Guide to Marine Life – Falling Up
I sat against the brick wall near the beach. The air was cool and smelled like the sea. It was mid-June and I was wearing my Bermuda shorts revealing a pair of pale legs. My toes were deep in the cool sand. I wore my long sleeved yellow shirt matching the colour of the mid-day sun. All I wanted to do was stay this way forever. My red locks blew against my face like feathers.

“Tell me the story of your death Daniel,” my new friend Anna-Lee asked me as she was as my side. I smiled.

“What tragedy that was,” I sighed. “But alright, I will, because I never met an angel like you before. It all happened when I was on a journey, to find what my life meant. I was on a ship with a couple of my sailing friends and we were expecting a perfect day to go. For a few days, it was fun, just the 5 of us, drinking, kidding around, and escaping in the beautiful clear water around us. But that picture started to fade and big black clouds started coming our way. We got ready for the storm and I was under the dock getting ready by attaching everything together. The storm hit hard and the floor under me was flooding. I did everything to stop the water from rising but I couldn’t help it. I tried screaming for help but they couldn’t hear me because of the storm. We hit a rock and some glass broke and I got a bunch of deep cuts from it. I was turning the clear water red.” I paused as the memory replayed in my mind. “The water got higher and higher and still no one came for my help, but it’s alright, they had to save the ship. I woke up on this beach in the end. I knew I was dead, and I figured out life is something great. Something everyone gets and when it’s your time to go, it’s your time.”

“Did you ever found out what your life meant?” she asked. I smiled at her. Her little toes wiggled under the sand.

“No, I didn’t, but I was brought into this world for a reason, and that reason right now, is still a mystery to me, and I’ll accept it,” I said as I put my arms behind my head. “I’m ready to stay here forever.”

“I’ll keep you company,” she said.

This Fire-Franz Ferdinand
I looked at her from across the room, she was beautiful, a goddess, a lost soul. She was dressed in red and had gleaming blond hair. Her skin was glistening under the dull lights of the room. A fire developed inside of me for the woman. She was a one-in-a-lifetime woman and I was selfishly wanted her to be mine. I knew I was staring and I really didn’t care.

“Sir, you know it’s rude to stare,” my companion Olivier told me. I looked at him for a moment. His green eyes were anxious.

“My good man, that is a beautiful woman, and she will be mine tonight. You should start looking too.” I’ve said as I took a drag from his cigarette right from his mouth and puffed it out through my nose. I continued to look at her. She finally got my eyes and I smirked. She smiled back at me, a beautiful smile. I got up from my seat to finally get to her. I fixed my suit as I walked up to her. Her expression was priceless as if she was expecting me.

“Hello there, I’m sorry if I was staring, I never saw an angel like you before,” I said as I took her hand. She giggled. The girl couldn’t be more than 19 years old.

“Hello, I’m flattered,” she said. “Would you like to sit?”

“Yes, of course,” I replied as we sat a small table and talked over a bit of wine. This woman was so much of interest to me. Everything she did or said was with grace. My fire grew, I wanted this woman tonight.

“Take me away, Laurent, I cannot stand my family’s rich lifestyle anymore, I am locked up in my own home and I’m forced to come to these galas by my father,” she said as all her movements became forced. I was in shock for a moment.

“You want to leave the lifestyle of the rich to live like us who can only come to a marvellous gala like this once in a blue moon?” I asked to make sure. She nodded. I smiled.

“Well, come with me, Gabrielle, a world awaits you,” I told her. Her eyes glittered. She and I escaped the gala. It was raining outside. She was laughing as her dress got wet. I couldn’t help myself; I twirled her around so she was against my chest against a light pole in the City of Lights. Her blond hair was dripping and her blue eyes were filled with passion. Her damp hands reached for my dark brown curls around my face. Her body was getting cold so I wrapped my arms tighter around her. The fire grew into a big flame; big enough to burn the city to the ground.

Lost-Red
I ran past every corner and opened every door in this never ending maze. I was lost, completely lost, yet, I’m not afraid of what’s going to happen to me. As I could have is faith along my side and I was going to be alright. I opened a new door or maybe a door I already opened. I looked into the dark room and all I saw was a child. It was her. So young and innocent with ginger waves and freckles, she was running her hands over the pink dress of her doll. I saw the gold crucifix around her neck, the same one she always wore since this age. She was so peaceful; I hoped that she’ll be like this forever. I knew I was in a new piece of the maze and so, I continued walking. Another door appeared. I opened it.

“No! Please, let me go Ayden! I’m leaving you now!” she screamed at her ex-boyfriend. She was 16 here. Her boyfriend was too overpowering and it was until this day she finally got control and left him. Of course the guy was put away for abuse. It was painful to watch and so I shut the door.

The next door was something that almost put me to tears.

Damian, come play with me!” she squealed. Her ginger waves bounced as she ran up to a younger me. We were about 7 years old here. I smiled at her.

Sure, I’ll play what you’ll like to play,” I said to her. She looked at me in awe.

Let’s play baseball! I promise I won’t throw the ball so crooked this time. I don’t want you to feel bad when you can’t see the ball in your right eye,” she said. I leaned on the doorframe. I lost the sight in my right eye after an accident when I was 6 and I now wore an eye patch throughout my life.

It’s alright, I play better now, even with my bad eye,” I smiled at her. I couldn’t watch anymore so I closed the door. Every door I open is a memory in this maze. I want to be lost in them.

Epiphany-Staind
I laid there as numb as I can be and let gravity do its work on my body. I wanted let everything go. It was raining outside and I could hear the pitter-patter on the window loud and clear like it was mocking me. I let the blood run from the wounds on my wrists as I wanted a slow death. I could smell the blood as it soaks the floor at my sides. She wasn’t coming home tonight, I don’t think so.

The pills didn’t work, no matter the dose. My eyesight was fading away. I was losing a lot of blood. That’s when I heard the door open and a pair of keys clashed on the little table by the door. She came home. And then I heard a bag being dropped onto the floor and a very low shriek.

“Ashton! Holy Shit, what did you do to yourself you idiot?!” She cried as she kneeled at my side. She was crying for me.

“Why did you come back? I thought you said you hate me,” I whispered to her as my heart throbbed.

“I was only angry at you, I didn’t mean it, I’m sorry, I’m so sorry, please, don’t let go, I’m here and I’ll always be coming back,” she cried to me. Her brown eyes were puffy and red. “Let me call an ambulance.” She took out her cell phone and made a call. My heart was now at ease. As she called she quickly went to get a bunch of towels from the bathroom and wrapped them around my wrists. “They’re coming soon. I’m so glad I came home early; I wanted to make up what I did to you by cooking a gourmet home meal. That argument made me realize how much I can’t be angry at you. I know that it’s not your fault that you’re so depressed I just wish I made a better effort to help you. I won’t ever leave like I did ever again, I promise.” She cried as she laid her head on my chest. I watched her. This was my epiphany of how much I meant to her.

Lost Realist-Trapt
I didn’t enjoy reality, it was too violent and ignorant for me. I made myself into the person I dreamt I was and turned my back on the world.

“Annie,” my friend cried behind me. She was more my companion than my friend. She was there to keep me company.

“Hey Marie,” I said. She was a really cute girl, short pixie blond hair and big blue eyes. We spoke more like co-workers on this world than actual friends and she didn’t really mind, I admired her greatly for it. The days passed and I still made myself oblivious to everything around me. It was that day I got a phone call.

“Hello? Annie Dixon?” the man on the other line said.

“Yes, that’s me,” I said.

“It’s me, your brother, Roderick,” he said.

“I have no brother, I’ve been an only child for as long I can remember,” I said immediately. I cancelled out the existence of my brother since my childhood. Why was he back to haunt me?!

“Don’t play with me Annie; you’ve ignored my existence for almost 10 years now! I exist, I’m real! I want to talk to my little sister!”

“I said, I don’t have a brother,” I said again with more annoyance. He sighed on the other end.

“Dear Lord, why do you hate me so much?” he said. I didn’t want to hate him, it’s just; mother and father always liked him better than me. He wasn’t real. He wasn’t real. He wasn’t real to me anymore; he’s just a terrible nightmare.

“I’m going to let you go,” I said as I hung up. I heard his screams. I stayed still on the little comforter. I pushed back my wavy black hair behind my ear. The event was stuck in my mind for a few days. One night, I was having tea in the comfort of my bedroom and working on some homework for my classes. The door bell rang. I got up and fixed my light nightgown. I unlocked the door and opened it. There stood Roderick and all his glory. My heart fell to my stomach; I thought I left home with no reference of where to find me.

“Annie,” he said. I arched my eyebrows at him. “Please, don’t pretend I don’t exist anymore, I’ve looked everywhere for you. I’m sorry for what I’ve done to you in the past.” He said as he pulled from behind his back a dozen yellow daffodils. They were my favourite flower.

“I-I-I,” I couldn’t speak. His chocolate brown eyes, same as mine were filled with hurt. “Brother, I hate reality, why do you have to be a part of it?” I said. We stood there in silence.

“I have no answer for you,” he said. “No matter what kind of lost realist are you, I want to be part of your reality, I can’t live with the knowledge of you hating me. I would do anything for you to accept me as your brother again.” I was crying now. I was crying for the first time in years. I truly missed him. I broke my own bubble and let him in. His warm arms wrapped around me. He was now the only real thing to me.

Dark Blue-Jack’s Mannequin
I remember when you were here with me. We were still young and carefree. I remember your laugh so clearly and the touch of your skin and your breath as it sent me shivers up my spine as you breathe down my neck.

I remember when I met you that night, at a friend’s party, you were alone. You were so pretty in that blue dress I had to say something to you. It clicked the minute we met and we were off to a great start. After a few meetings, you finally gave me that kiss I waited patiently for. Under the apple tree with big green leaves, you pressed your lips to mine. I wished that moment would last forever and I held on to you when you broke free. I buried my nose in your hair, it smelled like flowers and your light brown waves tickled my nose.

When it rained, I waited for you outside your house with that bright yellow umbrella you bought me when you found out I didn’t have one to begin with. We barely needed it as you enjoyed sticking out your tongue under the rain and let your face get all wet. I would have to bring you home and dry you off before you got sick just to get sick myself in the end.

You cried that day, when we said goodbye. I had to go away from you for my studies for a while. I didn’t want to leave you and you couldn’t afford to come with me. All I could rely on was letters and phone calls but it wasn’t enough. I needed you. Every time I looked up to the sky, in the dark blue of it, I always saw your face among the stars.

Your Guardian Angel-The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus
Since we were only kids, I was there for you. Your older brothers never liked me and yet I didn’t care.

“Keep away from our sister you jerk, she doesn’t need people like you,” they spat at me after they kicked me a couple of times and pounded me in the nose. You would come running to me with band-aids and Kleenex.

“I’m sorry that my brothers are so tough with you, they never wanted me to see other people, thank you for standing up for me,” she said as she would collapse on her knees on the grass and start dabbing my wounds with the Kleenex before applying the band-aids with gentle fingers.

“Clover!” one of her brothers would say as he forcefully took her by the arm. She cried to leave her alone.

“Let her go!” I yelled. He punched me hard in the side of my face. He took her away. I could see the sorrow in the eyes and I was too weak to do anything. When it was time to go to high school, your father sent you away to an all girls’ school, little did he know is that I applied to the all boys’ school a block away and got in.

“That’s amazing, we can still see each other, just keep it a secret okay? If my brothers ever find out, they’ll beat you up really badly and my father will kill you,” she said. I didn’t know if she was literal when she said her father would kill me if he found out but I took it as a note to be extra careful.

She was my first kiss that year; she had to do it fast because her older brother was picking her up from school today. It was the best day of my life, it was also the day I fell for her. I was really determined to protect her now. Our relationship was only short talks at lunch and kisses until the end of our high school years. When prom came along, she wasn’t allowed to go but she snuck away that night to come. Our schools would mingle with each other that night. I waited for her at the small hall for about an hour before she came in only jeans and a blouse with her ticket in her hand. She didn’t feel out of place even when she was really underdressed for the occasion. I held her close as we danced.

“London, you better run when my dad finally realizes I’m gone,” she said as she looked up at me. Her amber eyes were filled with fear.

“No, I won’t run, I’ll protect you, after tonight, I want you to run away with me,” I told her. Her eyes were really big. She then started to cry. I was confused; I thought she’ll be happy.

“I’d love to, if we don’t get killed first,” she said. My heart dropped to my stomach. Was her family that violent to protect her? Her head bobbled up as everyone heard a horn outside the hall.

“Run,” she whispered. That’s what we did. Through the back door and we sneaked behind buildings and ran to her home where she grabbed the suitcase she already prepared and we ran to my house. We locked all the doors and the closed all the light and huddled away. I would check out the window a few times if her dad’s truck was anywhere in sight. When I saw they were still far I put a bunch of clothes and all my savings in a school bag.

“Come, we’re leaving,” I said. We ran for our lives. The mixture of fear and adrenaline swam through my body as we ran. We reached the train station in time and I bought a pair of tickets.

“Where are we going?” she asked.

“Anywhere where you’ll be safe,” I assured her as I sat on the bench and tried to relax. The train was coming and we got on. That’s when she squealed and saw her dad as the train was well far away from the station. We got on just in time.

“He’s going to find us,” she cried. I hugged her tightly.

“No, he won’t, I promise, I would never let them hurt you or take you away from me ever again,” I whispered. She didn’t say anything for a while and we just listened to the train on the tracks.

“Thank you, my guardian angel,” she whispered loud enough so I can hear. She gently fell asleep in my arms.
