Two Weeks
Prologue
“Mommy! Mommy, look!” A four year old with dirty blonde hair called out as she went to go jump in a puddle.
It had been raining the night before and on their way over to the Hunter’s, friends of Melissa Payne’s since high school, Audrey Payne saw a big puddle and went ahead of her mother to go jump in it.
The Hunter’s and the Payne’s lived just a couple of houses over, it wasn’t necessary to drive over to their house.
“I see, honey, but don’t get your clothes dirty.” Melissa chided her daughter.
“I won’t!” Audrey replied and then jumped in another puddle, successfully getting her pink rain boots and the top of her jeans soaked. “Opps,” Audrey said innocently and Melissa laughed before she picked up her daughter.
“Come on, honey. We have to get to Carrie’s. Don’t you want to see Damian?” Melissa asked her daughter.
“Sure, Mommy.” Audrey replied with a smile.
Damian was Audrey’s age and they were best friends. They always played together and they always had fun.
A few moments later Melissa and Audrey had arrived at the Payne’s and they had rung the doorbell. A smiling four year old opened the door excitedly and Melissa walked into the house before she put Audrey down and the two kids ran off to play.
***
“Damian, why are you friends with her?” A six year old Jonathon Sheppard asked Damian. The two were looking at a six year old Audrey who was currently playing with a girl in their kindergarten class.
“My Mom is friends with hers.” Damian supplied quietly.
“But girls have cooties, remember?” Jonathon asked Damian and Damian nodded.
“Yea, they do, but Audrey’s my friend; I like her.” Damian defended himself and Audrey.
“You like her?” Jonathon asked just to make sure and Damian nodded again. “Eww, really?”
Damian stayed silent and Jonathon and a few of their other friends started singing. “Damian and Audrey sitting in a tree. K-I-S-S-I-N-G—” Damian cut them off.
“I don’t like her!” he shouted out and everyone in the class looked over at him confused.
“Are you sure you don’t like Audrey?” Jonathon teased.
“Yes! I don’t like her! I can’t stand her!” he yelled back and he got a look at Audrey quickly to see her with hurt eyes before she ran out of sight from him.
Surprisingly Damian didn’t feel guilty about it. Perhaps all those kids teasing him made him think otherwise?
***
“OW!” Audrey yelled as Damian pulled on her hair. “What was that for?” She yelled at him and he just smirked.
“You were annoying me.” Damian replied annoyed.
“How? You just got here! You were the one who went into my room!” she responded.
“You just annoy me.” Damian responded, rolling his eyes.
“Leave me alone!” Audrey shouted and then pushed Damian out of her room, closing the door in his face.
“You’re such a dumb girl.” Damian shouted through the door and then Audrey heard his footsteps retreating.
“I hate him.” She mumbled and climbed in her bed, going under the blankets and crying silently.
***
The Hunter’s were over at the Payne’s house and Damian and Audrey were playing outside currently. They were putting an act on for their parents who were watching them play at the moment.
However, when they went inside to get a drink quickly Damian had tripped Audrey, making her fall into wet mud.
“Damian, I hate you!” Audrey yelled out and Damian smirked, proud of himself.
“I hate you too!” Damian yelled back. “Why can’t you and your family just leave us alone?” Damian had asked angrily and glared at the girl who was lying down on the ground, covered in mud.
“My family?” Audrey questioned annoyed, getting up and pushing Damian in the chest. “You’re the one who causes all of the problems!”
Melissa and Carrie both ran out of the house and separated the two telling them to go inside and change their clothes.
Once they were inside Audrey went up to her room and closed the door getting changed quickly. Shortly after Damian came into Audrey’s room without even knocking.
“Get out of my room!” the seven year old yelled at Damian as she threw a Barbie doll at him, successfully hitting him in the head.
Damian knew Audrey had a short fuse. She’d get angry really easily and he discovered that not too long ago. He loved pushing her buttons so he would always continue to do so.
“OW!” Damian complained and rubbed his head where the doll hit him. With that he walked over to Audrey and pulled at her hair.
Every time Damian did something like that Audrey would hit Damian and then Damian would fight back with Audrey, both ending up with bruises and scratches. Melissa and Carrie would end up hearing them and would pull the two apart giving each other a lecture later on. Of course, it was no exception on this day either. Melissa and Carrie came up and separated the two, telling them to stay in different rooms. Later they’d find out their punishments.

Audrey and Damian were at the park just down the street a bit. Their parents would be able to see them from where they were. Besides, eleven year olds didn’t really want to be taken to the park with their parents.
Audrey was currently playing with a girl around her age, whereas Damian was over at the slide by himself. When the girl Audrey was playing with left Audrey went over to the swings and she started swinging. She wanted to be as far away from Damian as she could. Damian, on the other hand, had different plans. He walked over to Audrey and shoved her off of the swing, making her fall to the ground and into the sand scratching up her knees. It hurt Audrey but she got up anyway and glared daggers at Damian.
“What was that for?” she demanded annoyed.
“I want the swings!” Damian responded a little bratty.
“You could have asked!” Audrey shot back annoyed and Damian rolled his eyes.
“You’re such a whimp, Auds.” Damian responded annoyed. It was the first time he called her Auds and Audrey hated it, so it got her even more annoyed.
“I am not!” Audrey called back before she started poking Damian in the chest. “And don’t call me Auds.”
“You are a whimp.” Damian responded smirking. “And what’s the matter, Auds?” Damian asked teasingly.
Audrey was so annoyed with him that instead of a verbal attack she went for a physical attack and smacked Damian across the face.
Of course, once Damian gets hit he retaliates. Their mothers noticed and they came running to the park instantly and separated the two bringing them back to their respective houses.

Melissa and Carrie were sitting in the Payne’s kitchen talking to each other, while Audrey and Damian were in the TV room watching a TV show together. By now, the thirteen year olds were relatively calmer, although they still fought often.
“We’re moving,” Carrie had told Melissa in the kitchen and Audrey overheard. To say it was the best news she heard would be an understatement. Although she loved Carrie, it was the son she couldn’t stand, at all.
“You’re moving?” Audrey asked Damian curiously and he shrugged.
“Yea,” he replied simply.
“Where are you moving to?” Melissa asked Carrie and Audrey stayed silent to hear this conversation.
“Well, Brandon’s decided he wants to expand his restaurants some more. So he thought it’d be better if we moved out of the city and to a busier place, like Toronto. He doesn’t want to have to drive into Toronto every day and back, what with traffic and everything.” Carrie responded.
“Oh, you’ll still come and visit, right?” Melissa asked curiously.
“As much as we can.” Carrie responded quietly.
“When are you moving?” Melissa asked.
“Next week,” Carrie replied softly.
***
“Carrie, don’t forget to call us. Just keep in touch, alright?” Melissa cried out just as the Hunter’s were about to leave the city. Audrey couldn’t be more excited for Damian leaving, but she kept it hidden.
“I’ll keep in touch, don’t worry, hon.” Carrie replied and gave Melissa a hug. It felt like the two were losing each other. They’ve never been so far away, they’ve always lived close by, but now this was a huge change for them. After the two let go of each other Carrie gave Audrey a quick hug and then Audrey’s father, Nolan. Next Brandon gave everyone a hug briefly, though the two men shook hands.
“Damian, be a good boy and keep out of trouble, okay?” Melissa asked Damian and he nodded. “You’ll be a fine young man, I’m sure of it.” Melissa responded and she gave Damian a hug.
Damian then turned to Audrey, over the years, even though he was mean to Audrey, he still liked her. He wasn’t about to admit anything though. “Later,” Damian said to Audrey and pulled her into a tight hug, as he pulled back he pulled on her hair and then he turned to Nolan, ignoring the glare Audrey was sending his way. The two hugged quickly and then once they were all finished the Hunter’s got in their car and drove away.
After a while, Audrey went up to her room and turned on some music. She had begun dancing, she was rather happy that Damian, her enemy for these past few years, was finally gone. Things couldn’t get better.
***
It was freshman year of high school, the first day. Audrey had met this one girl, Chloe, she was kind of preppy and a would be cheerleader, but Audrey didn’t mind. Chloe and Audrey became friends pretty instantly. Halfway through the year a new student, Justin, arrived to the school and Chloe, being the social butterfly she always was, started talking to the boy. The three of them all became friends. However, that was when problems started for Audrey.
Audrey found that her self-esteem had lowered greatly over the years, even before high school started, she liked to blame it on Damian and her father. Damian, simply because he always teased her and constantly made fun of her. Her father, on the other hand, was a bit abusive towards Audrey, verbally, not physically. The words he said caused hurt to Audrey, however due to past events Audrey had trust issues and she couldn’t tell anyone anything, not even her mother who she always told things to as a kid.
Chloe and Justin often found that Audrey missed school, but they never knew the reason behind it. When they confronted Audrey about it she just shrugged it off as if it was nothing, of course that didn’t help their suspicions. It was like that for three years, hopefully their senior year would be different.
***
Over in Toronto, Damian had made a bunch of friends, he found that he was the popular type and he would’ve been a player, but he was saving his first relationship for a special girl, if she’d take him that is. His best friend Ricky knew about Damian’s crush on Audrey and he often asked Damian about her. However, Damian denied having feelings for the girl every time; he even lied to himself about it.
Aside from that, Damian’s home life wasn’t that great. He had a wonderful relationship with his mother, but with his father constantly in and out of the hospital things got stressful. It was even more stressful since his father was an alcoholic and would hit Damian whenever Carrie wasn’t home. Ricky knew something was up, but he wouldn’t force anything out of his friend. If Damian was ready to tell someone then he would. Although Ricky couldn’t deny seeing the bruises and other random injuries on Damian.
Due to all of the stress in Damian’s house he had started picking up smoking; it wasn’t a daily thing, it was just whenever he was really stressed out. He was hoping senior year would be better.
***
“Wait, we’re moving back?” Damian asked, making sure he heard his Mom right.
“Yes, we’re planning to get there before school starts. Your father and I have found a house already and of course we can afford it.” Carrie replied to her son. The Hunter’s were rich, due to all of the restaurants, hotels and various other places that Brandon started up. Brandon was successful with anything business related. He knew what to do, how to get his way and he would play games with people if he had to, just to get his way. It was a trait Damian picked up from his father, although Damian hated to admit he was anything like his father.
“Yea,” Damian mumbled. Although he was looking forward to seeing Audrey and bugging her, he was more frustrated that he’d be leaving some of his best friends. Although, he was glad he wouldn’t have to put up with Jessika.
Jessika was a girl who always tried to get with Damian. She would try and hook up with him at parties and she would try and get him to take her out somewhere. He always refused her though but it didn’t matter. Even when she was going out with someone she still tried to get with Damian and it irritated him.
“Don’t worry, you can always come visit everyone. You have your own car after all.” Carrie said to Damian, knowing he was wondering about his friends.
“Yea, I guess so,” Damian muttered.
“Damian, we’re moving back because I miss my best friend.” Carrie replied, however that wasn’t the actual reason. Carrie wasn’t really wanting to tell her son about his father not getting better, at all.
“Mom, its fine.” Damian replied and his Mom nodded.
The two talked a bit longer before they went off to do their own thing. The next couple of days involved a lot of packing things up.
A/N: As promised, here's the beginning of the rewrite. It's quite a bit longer and it's slightly changed, the whole story is and will be slightly changed, just so you all know, there's your warning. Though a lot of it will also remain the same. Oh, and you should all feel special because I got this up earlier then I was actually planning on. So you get this earlier than I was planning (Only by a couple of days but still).
Now, as promised I told you I'd give you a sneak peek of my NaNoWriMo, so here it is, it's also called You're So Vain, just so you know:
“I’ll see you guys later, I’ve got to do something quickly then pick my brother up and take him to his day care.” I said as I got up from my seat and headed over to Desiree, she was still at the cafeteria doors, I think she was looking for Jack.
When I reached Desiree the first thing I did was grab her arm and take her outside of the cafeteria into the lobby, where there were less people.
“Ugh, what do you want now?” Desiree asked me annoyed.
“It’s about our assignment,” I responded.
“Can’t we talk about it tomorrow, or during last period since you’re more than likely purposely going to sit by me?” she asked annoyed.
“Well, it could, but the idea is fresh in my mind right now.” I replied.
“Oh, for once?” she asked making fun of me briefly.
“Perhaps, but I have tones of fresh new ideas for you.” I responded winking at her.
“Oh really?” she asked and I nodded. “Now, do any of these ideas exclude me?”
“Babe, they all include you.” I replied, giving her another wink.
“Then keep me out of them, please.” She said.
“Can’t guarantee anything,” I told her.
“What do you want, really?” she asked me annoyed and started pulling me into an empty hallway.
“How about we date?” I asked her and she gave me a disbelieving look.
“You aren’t serious, are you?” she asked.
“Oh, I am.”
“We just started talking and I can’t fucking stand you.”
“Maybe, but this is for our project.” I explained and she looked confused.
And there you have it! A small section for it, to figure out more about it you'll have to wait until I either get my 50K written or when December 1st comes and I rewrite/edit chapter 1.
Anyway, enjoy the rewrite of Two Weeks, please let me know what you think by reviews.
Oh, and I obviously don't own Barbie dolls or whatever else I may have mentioned, if I forgot something...but I don't think I did. xD
