Today I whacked my head on the kitchen tile floor,
tripped coming up the stairs
and when the dust in my brain cleared
you were there
old and comforting
I fell in love again
forgetful in your absence
I dove back into your protective embrace
happy to be sheltered
happy to be dark
that is until you dug your nails into me
and I heard him call my name
over the static of the telephone
we were talking underwater
arms rubbed raw from climbing up the sides of your pitt
innards ripped out and trailing behind me
you called me back
but in the end were satisfied with the parts of me that fell behind.
