REALITY CHECK

“Ready for round two?”

I blink and open my eyes, yawning as I adjust my vision to focus on my surroundings. Eric Lowe’s face gazes down at me expectantly, waiting for an answer. I scrunch my eyebrows together, confused. Maybe I’m really hung over, but something doesn’t seem right about this – I just can’t quite put my finger on it.

“Round two?” I ask uncertainly.

Eric laughs. “Oops. Okay, maybe round six or seven. Who knows? I lost track last night!”

Wait a minute. What. The. Fuck. Am. I. Doing. With. Eric. Lowe.

I wrench myself away from Eric as he makes a move to kiss me and catch my reflection in the mirror across the bed. It is only then that I discover three things: a) I am in bed with Eric Lowe in his room, b) neither of us is wearing any clothes, and c) I look a lot like Heaven Holdbrooks, Eric’s current girlfriend and my very own worst enemy.

“What’s wrong baby?” Eric pulls back and looks at me like I’m the first girl to ever turn him down – which, for the record, I so was.

And then I start laughing insanely – only it’s not my obnoxious hyena laugh. It’s Heaven’s girly laugh that comes out, which probably only makes me – or her? – sound even more insane.

This can’t be happening. I have no idea what happened last night. What day is today, anyway? This sounds like the beginning of a really bad teen movie. There are only two scenarios I can think of that would result in waking up as Heaven Holdbrooks after having sex with Eric, a guy I absolutely cannot stand. The first scenario is that I went to a party and was somehow drugged and this is all a sick, twisted hallucination. The next is that I died and was reincarnated as Heaven Holdbrooks, which means I must not have been as good a person as I’d always thought I was if I ended up as Heaven in my next life. I’m really hoping I was drugged and this is just a vivid hallucination because no way do I want to be stuck as Heaven Holdbrooks in this life or any other life.

Eric slowly gets out of bed, pulling on a familiar pair of plaid boxers in one swift move. Not like I haven’t already seen it all already.

Before I can say anything to Eric, a phone vibrates on the other side of the bed. Eric picks up a bejeweled iPhone and tosses it on the bed next to me. It lands right next to me, but instead of picking it up, I stare at the iPhone incredulously. I recognize this. Everyone has heard about it. This is Heaven Holdbrooks’ infamous iPhone. It’s covered with Swarovski crystals arranged intricately to form a fancy-looking crown and a swirly letter ‘H’ for Heaven. Now I have to conclude that there is no way I was drugged. There is only one iPhone that looks like this in the world, and no vivid hallucination could ever include Heaven Holdbrooks’ outrageously decorated iPhone. Waking up as Heaven Holdbrooks is one thing. But being in possession of that ridiculous phone?

Oh my god. That means I’m the reincarnation of Heaven Holdbrooks.

I’m the devil!

A/N: Welcome to my newest project! And aksjds yes, I know, I haven't updated Accidentally in Love in over a year. I'm working on writing for that, too. But most of my time and energy will be focused on Reality Check, and I would really appreciate some feedback. Obviously, the whole body-switching thing isn't a new concept, but I want to make it my own. Thanks for reading and maybe you'll feel inclined to review...? Just a thought!

Chapter 1 is already written, expect it to be up either tomorrow or shortly after the new year. Updates depend on how much time I have to actually write, but this entire story is already planned out, so I know exactly what's going on.
