Red

Sometimes I dream

Of painting the ceiling red

The twitch of a finger,

And glorious paint washes across the room

No reason in particular,

Red is the way it is.

I’m tired of the sterile white,

A change would be nice

So why don’t I

Paint the ceiling red?

Conformists might say,

“Oh, but ceilings are white!”

I might say,

“But why? There is no reason! My ceiling will be red!”

Others might say,

“But there are so many other choices!”

I say simply,

“Red is so easy! The twitch of a finger!”

I think I just may

Paint my ceiling red.
