Bartholomew the chicken

Reader, this story is about a chicken. A chicken named Bartholomew. Bartholomew was not an ordinary chicken, when he was born the farmer who found him-farmer Brown- saw that Bartholomew had a strange purple spot on his head. Now farmer Brown took this as a very good omen because purple was the color of royalty. But alas, the good farmer could not keep his royal chicken for matters better left untold. So Bartholomew was put op for sale and an ad was placed in the paper.

Reader, we must now go back in time a ways and be introduced to a city, New York City to be very precise, and meet a man called George. George worked at a very important building right at the heart of the great city. Now George had a very child-like wish, he wanted to be famous and he wanted a chicken. Reader, this may seem a very peculiar wish, to own a chicken. Some wish for jewels, power, riches, but not George. No, George always wanted a chicken, so when he saw the ad in the daily news paper he immediately sped toward the farm where Bartholomew was for sale.

After George paid for Bartholomew and took him back to his apartment he noticed that his new pet was a bit muddy. Seeing this George set to put Bartholomew into the bathtub. As the water was running George inspected his new pet and found the purple spot on Bartholomew’s head. Well George didn’t care and thought that the unique birthmark was special.

When the water in the tub was at a good level George sat Bartholomew in it and proceeded to scrub-down the chicken. Very soon Bartholomew as covered in bubbles, so many in fact that no part of him but his eyes and beak poked through. George grabbed a cup of water and poured it over Bartholomew’s head and body, revealing spotless white feathers. Except for Bartholomew’s spot. But reader Bartholomew’s spot was no longer a spot, no it was a horn. A two inch purple horn was protruding from Bartholomew’s small head. It was this horn that surprised George the most, but George did not react like most people would after seeing a horned chicken.
