Chapter 1

Chapter One: Oh Hell!

A dark, cloaked figure walked the face of the Earth on an unusually cold night in November. The figure was headed in a set direction, seeing as how they had a specific task that needed to be fulfilled.

The cloaked person had flamed in from the underworld in search of a particular person, and would not rest until said person was found. After what seemed like days of searching, the cloaked person finally found her task, her reason for being on this wretched place. It was only by pure miracle that this cloaked person’s job was laying there right under the moon. The cloaked woman had been ordered to kill Endymion, Selene’s lover. Who would order such a thing? Can you think of no one? Well, I’ll just leave that speculation up to you. What fun would it be if I told you who sent the cloaked woman?

The short and skinny murderer walked through the dark forest very stealthily. She didn’t want to be seen, which was the reason for her cloaked camouflage. The person let down her hood, revealing long, brown hair. She walked over towards Endymion, and pulled out a needle, with what looked like red poison in it. Endymion had been placed under an eternal sleep, so that Selene would be able to be with him forever. The female with the poison carefully placed the needle near Endymion’s neck, and stuck it inside of him, knowing he would not wake up.

Once Endymion’s murderer saw that the poison had worked, she swiftly ran out of view of anyone who could possibly pass by. While Endymion had been living at home, his murderer didn’t know if he had friends or other family who looked after him. Once out of the sight of humans, the unknown female flamed down to the Underworld, to tell her master of the completed task.

“It’s been done,” the young female said as she stood before Hades.

“Excellent job DuVessa,” Hades said with a smile. “I trust you had no trouble doing it?”

“None at all Master.”

“Even more excellent. My plan is coming into effect most wonderfully. Phase one has been completed.”

DuVessa grinned, and cackled along with Hades at this grand news. She knew that she would not have had any trouble killing a sleeping immortal. The poison had been especially powerful, seeing as how Hades had made it himself. With Selene’s one, and only husband and reason for living out of the picture, Hades knew that he would be able to do the rest of his plan without problems.

“Shall we celebrate Master,” DuVessa asked as she brushed her hair out of her face.

DuVessa was a very pretty young woman who was in her 20’s. She was part demon, part vampire, and one of Hades’ nieces. Her skin was pale, seeing as how the Underworld lacked sunlight, and her eyes were a silver blue color. She was absolutely mesmerizing to any human male that took a look at her. Hades on the other hand, was a very tall and scary looking god.

“Of course we should celebrate,” Hades said as he clapped his hands and turned the Underworld into one giant party room. “Tonight we celebrate in your honor DuVessa,” Hades said with a wicked grin.

DuVessa beamed at the news, and examined all of the dark decorations. He had made a magical fire that surrounded the walls, but yet it was contained. In the middle of the room they were standing in, stood a very large round table. There were no decorations on it yet, as Hades wanted to surprise DuVessa with them.

“Thank you Master. If you will please excuse me, I’ve got to go get ready,” she said as she skipped off to her quarters.

As DuVessa bounced out of the room, a very tall, and handsome vampire walked in. He had very short, brown hair, and icy blue eyes. He also wore a blood-red t-shirt and black jeans.

“Ahhh, Damien my son,” Hades said as he stepped down from his pedestal.

“Hello father. What’s all of this about,” Damien asked referring to the new decorations.

“DuVessa has completed the task I assigned her successfully. We will be celebrating in her honor tonight.”

“Dare I ask what task this one was?”

“I assigned her to kill Endymion.”

Damien’s eyes widened in shock and horror. He was used to his father killing and torturing humans for fun, but this was very unexpected. Hades was messing with the gods and goddesses of the Universe. Damien was sure nothing good was going to come from this.

“Are you crazy father? Do you want to start a war with the other gods and goddesses?”

“Do I want to conquer the Universe?”

“You are insane dad. What makes you think that you’re actually going to win?”

“I’m positive that this plan is going to go over spectacularly son.”

“You didn’t answer my question.”

“I just know. The first part has already been completed.”

“Why are you even bothering Selene anyway?”

“I am the god of darkness son. My true goal is to kill Gaia, however, my first goal is to get rid of Selene. You see, Selene is Gaia’s precious gem. It’s merely a trap.”

“So if you kill off the gem, then you weaken the motherload?”

“Exactly.”

“I don’t know dad, it seems very risky.”

“I’m really very disappointed in you son. Have I taught you nothing about being my heir?”

“I know we are risk takers dad, but this is the Universe we are talking about. Do you honestly think that our army of demons and monsters are ready for such a battle?”

“There is only one way to really know Damien.”

“Don’t expect me to lead them,” Damien said as he walked out.

“You will do as I say. I am your Master above all. I created you, I can destroy you.”

“I didn’t ask to be created,” Damien spat out angrily.

After Damien said that, he stormed out of the throne room. He went back to his room, to contemplate on the argument he and his father had just had. One of the demon servants came in after about an hour to check up on Damien.

Hades is nuts,” Damien thought to himself as he laid down on his bed. “Does he really think he can get away with this? Selene will probably go crazy when she finds out it was he who sent DuVessa to kill Endymion. She’ll probably want to start a war or something for revenge. Knowing my father, he will want me to lead the Underworld Army. Honestly, what do I know about wars? I’m not a military person thank you very much. I didn’t ask for this life.

“Master Damien,” the little monster called Calypso asked.

Damien jumped as Calypso walked into the room, and looked down at Calypso as she stood at the bottom of his bed. Calypso only stood at four feet tall, while Damien was just over 6 feet. She had long, pointy ears and a long tail. Her eyes were a charcoal color, and her nose was bigger than her face. She wore a generic black and white maid’s dress that had been designed specifically for her.

“Yes Caly,” Damien asked as he sat up in bed.

“Will you be attending the feast tonight Sir?”

“I suppose I will be, though I personally don’t see the point.”

“Alright Master. Is there anything I can get you Sir?”

“No thank you Caly,” Damien said as he turned on his side.

“As you wish Master,” Caly said as she began to leave the room.

“Caly,” Damien beckoned for her.

“Yes Master?”

“How long have you been here?”

“4,000 years Sir.”

“Do you like it here?”

“It’s the only home I’ve ever known Sir.”

“But do you like it?”

“Most of the time, yes, I do Sir.”

“Do you have any family Caly?”

“I expect they’ve all been murdered by Hades.”

“How did you meet my father?”
”Honestly Sir, I don’t remember. I remember being lost, and needing a place to stay. Master Hades found me, and offered me a home. Of course nothing with Hades ever comes free, so I was made a servant for life once I agreed to his offer.

“Oh, I see. Well, perhaps you should get back to work then Caly.”

“Yes Master Damien.”

Calypso bowed, and walked slowly out of the room. Damien stretched, and opened one of the shades in his room. Outside that particular window, was a magical ever-burning fire. It was purple and blue in color, and not hot at all. In fact, the fire was standing still, and rather cold if touched. Damien opened his window to let the coolness of the fire fill the room. While he personally could not do magic, he had asked Calypso to make the fire for him. The Underworld would have been unbearably hot for him without it.

Damien went to his closet to pick out something suitable to wear. After all, the Prince of Darkness had to look his best now, didn’t he? He took out a black and white tuxedo, and had one of his servants help him with the bowtie. Once he was finished getting ready, he met his dad in the throne room.

“Nice of you to join me Damien,” Hades said as he sat down on his throne.

“Yeah, yeah,” Damien said as he took a seat in his own throne.

“Come on son, everyone loves you. Don’t be such a party pooper.”

“It’s hard to be excited about something you don’t believe in.”

“I’m supposed to be evil. It’s my job to come up with this sort of thing.”

“I know dad, I know.”

The guests finally started to arrive in the throne room. DuVessa was one of the first to enter. She wore her hair back in a very fancy bun that allowed a couple of strands of her hair fall down the sides of her cheeks. She wore very light makeup, and a pale pink lipstick. She wore a baby blue strapless dress that flowed down to the floor, and matching blue high heeled shoes. DuVessa walked gingerly over to Hades and Damien. Damien and DuVessa went back to when he was a newborn vampire, 3,000 years ago. They were best friends, and even sometimes lovers. Being the gentleman Damien was, he got up from this throne, and bowed down to DuVessa, offering her his arm.

“You look lovely tonight DuVessa,” Damien said to make polite conversation.

“Why thank you Damien, you look quite handsome yourself.”

“Shall I escort you to your seat?”

“Of course Damien, that would be lovely, thank you.”

Hades takes his seat at the head of the table. Usually Damien was on his right hand side, but tonight DuVessa sat in Damien’s usual spot. She offered Damien a small smile, and a blush as he pulled out the chair for her.

“Don’t get too used to it,” he joked.

“I won’t. This feels weird, but kind of nice,” she admitted.

“It usually is nice sitting at Hade’s right hand,” Damien admitted. “But tonight is about you, and your victory over Selene,” he whispered into her ear. “Take the ride, and don’t worry about me.”

“Oh, trust me Damien, I won’t worry about you,” DuVessa said with a small giggle and ruffled his hair.

“Argh, not the hair DuVessa,” Damien growled.

Hades called the party to order as the rest of the demons and monsters joined them. He beamed at his followers and servants, and turned to look at DuVessa, and offered her a big grin. He tapped his glass to get everyone’s attention.

“My fellow monsters and demons,” Hades began. “Tonight we celebrate the dawn of a new era. Our dearest DuVessa Abana has completed the first task of my goal to gain Universal conquest. Tonight we celebrate her honor and victory. Now, let the feast begin!”

Hades snapped his fingers, and a glorious looking meal appeared on the table. Conversation took place amongst the demons and the monsters that had been gathered at the table. Topics of discussion ranged from the latest hunt, to sports to politics, etc. A very beautiful young woman with long, thick black hair and chocolate brown eyes started to talk to Damien.

“So Damien, how does it feel to be the heir,” Persephone asked him.

“Honestly, I’m not so sure at the moment Persephone.”

“Don’t you like power?”

“Not really. I’m fine the way I am thanks. If I wanted power, I would have killed Hades years ago.”

“Damien, you really should consider backing your father up. It will pay off in the long run.”

“I just don’t believe in upsetting the gods Persephone. You of all people should understand that,” he spat out.

DuVessa saw that there was going to be an argument between Damien and Persephone, and decided to but in.

“Dance with me Damien,” DuVessa said as more of a demand.

“Uh, sure,” he said as he stood up.

Damien led her to the dance floor as a slow song started playing. Damien placed his hands on her hips, and she wrapped her arms around his neck. They started swaying and dancing to the music.

“I don’t get you sometimes Damien. Most people would kill to be in your shoes,” DuVessa said as a matter-of-factly-.

“I’m not most people DuVessa.”

“I know that Damien,” she said with a soft sigh. “I was hoping that we could have a sort of victory part just the two of us. I guess you wouldn’t be up for that though, now would you?”

“Who said I didn’t want that?”

“You pretty much just did.”

“Well, considering it’s been about 50 years,” Damien said with wide grin.

DuVessa giggled, and placed a soft kiss on his lips. Damien willingly kissed her back, and grinned when he pulled away.

“There will be plenty more of that later ‘Vessa,” Damien said as he twirled her around.

DuVessa smiled at Damien, and rested her head against his shoulder while they continued to dance in front of everyone in the Underworld. She liked Damien a whole lot, and hated that she could only be just a friend to him. She wanted so much more, and just couldn’t understand why he wouldn’t commit to her.

“We shall talk about that later,” Damien whispered into her ear as he read her thoughts about him.
