Summary: Before drifting off into the realm of nightmares once more, a girl has a sweet dream.

--

She was...dreaming. It was not a happy dream, not an unhappy dream. It, like her, simply was. There was no question, but it existed. There is no other way to explain.

In this dream, she was simply laying there, watching. Quietly, she controlled her breathing, the slight shift in her pose, and the closeness between them.

She did not know how he had gotten there, but she did not mind his presence. It was the most peaceful that she had ever seen him, the most tranquil. She did not want to disturb his rest. So, she simply watched him, leaning her weight on an arm to keep her balance as she sat calmly, her heart pounding in her chest.

She was at peace, but her heart was about to escape through her chest. Serenity and calm was about her, yet she could not control this rebellious heart of hers.

A soft smile graced her pale lips as her eyes skittered over dark skin. A relaxed face, dark lashes, black hair falling over his closed eyes. His hands tucked behind his head and his legs crossed at his ankles. Any clothing he wore did not matter to her in that moment; it was the boy who was important. The newcomer, this strange, exotic boy who she knew would be dearly missed when he left.

She watched his lips turn upward, a smile that she loved easily appearing on his face. then, laughter. Soft and easy, happy and playful and maybe just a little bit nervous, all in one. Just like she remembered.

His eyes opened slowly, crinkling and folding in happiness. She noticed, as always, the dark eyes the were still so new to her. Before him, she had never saw eyes that were so dark they could only be black.

His lips moved, words pouring from them in a language that was not his own. She couldn't hear them over the rushing of blood in her ears; embarrassed at getting caught. She knew what he wanted, though; his eyes asked her the question.

"What are you doing awake?"

She giggled softly and laid down again. He was embarrassed, she thought. It was strange and all too new, She'd never realized it before. She closed her eyes and breathed out softly. Her heart pounded, beating faster and faster against her chest. She turned her head to find him silently watching her. She blushed and parted her lips to speak.

Her eyes opened and the words escaped her mouth in a whisper as her eyes took in the sight of her bedroom walls.

"Goodnight.”

But he was not there.
