As I said in the description, this is a companion poem to Ocean Dance. (You probably can tell by this one being called Our Ocean.) It is about the same two girls who used to be best friends.

Oh, and sorry it’s taking so long for me to update. I will have an update of Lonely Hearts tonight, and I plan to be posting four chapters of a week of that story. (the other stories will come rather quickly too…I hope.)

The cabin is quiet,

Voices have spoken their last,

Silence is the occupant,

Sleeps spell has been cast

All hearts rest,

But for mine,

I am restless

Haunted by dreams malign

I stand at a window,

Hands and toes chilled,

My eyes slide shut,

I return to where my soul was spilled

The glass of the window,

Cold against my fingertips,

It pulls me from thought,

And puts tingles in my lips

My gaze goes out the window,

Into the crisp winter air,

And as I stretch my eyes,

I discover you are there

I see you,

Thought I don’t turn

You are in the corner

My fingers and toes burn

I toss you a smile

Faking cheer

Because if I don’t

You’ll see my tear

I speak to you,

You know my tone

You hear its hidden notes

As you hear it in your own

I tell you,

Look through the windowpane,

See all the frost?

I see our future,

And what it cost.

You see only mist,

Upon this windowpane,

While I see memories,

And my own pain

In your silence,

I look outside

Stare into the beauty

Don’t see you draw alongside

Through the fog,

Outside the glass,

Beyond the cabin,

Into winter air we pass

My gaze is stolen,

By water so blue,

Into the waves,

Into memories of you

Images are recalled,

Of two kayaks drifting

Upon ocean waves,

Water currents shifting

Muscled hands,

Straining to maintain,

Paddles dipping,

They do not complain

Words do not touch the air

They are simple and bland

They are useless,

As forgotten as the sand

You have taught me

And I have learned

Words are dead between us

They are to be spurned

I wish I could tell you,

All through our ventures,

As we shot for the stars,

You landed by the moon,

I didn’t get that far.

Upon those waves,

I know what I pursue,

Those kayaks,

Holding me and you

But as we look through the window,

And you stare out to sea,

I know what you’re seeking,

And it just ain’t me.

You return to dreams

Slip back into your lover’s arms

Into his embrace you go

Under the spell of his charms

I am by the window,

Yet haunted by you

Not by what you said

For speaking you did not do

It was your silence,

That’s what haunts me,

And the look of your eyes,

As you stared out to our sea

Silence accompanies,

As my soul steps upon the stair,

Seeking comfort,

That I know you won’t bear

Looking out that window,

Staring out at our sea,

I know what you were seeking,

And it wasn’t me
