November Ice Cream

Do you remember

the ice cream parlor on Lakeshore Road?

The sun fell across

the hollows of your cheekbones

as you held a vanilla cone in

gentle fingers.

I memorized your hazel eyes

and the taste of chocolate

on my lips.

It was warm enough for spring,

but still November -

I went home with the dying remains

of maple leaves crumbling underfoot.
