So this is a rewrite of my story Surra. Still takes place in England. Hope you enjoy!
It was Halloween night, and young Isabella was excited. She loved going trick-or-treating with her big sister Alyssa. Alyssa wasn’t a big fan of Halloween, but she loved being with her sister, so she agreed to take her out this year. Her parents planned on staying home to pass out candy. They knew Alyssa would protect her sister no matter what.
A few weeks before, they had both gone out to find costumes. Isabella knew she what she wanted to be; a fairy princess. They went to three stores before she found the perfect costume. It was three different shades of green, ranging from yellow green to plain green to forest green. It had wings that attached to the dress, and the dress was a good length, falling to just past her knees. She found shoes that were sparkly silver to match, and was happy the rest of the day.
It was in this store that Isabella found a costume for her sister. Isabella decided that her sister would be a beautiful, kind witch. She found a sky blue dress with silver lining. She tried it on, and Isabella’s smile grew. “You look so pretty, Alyssa.”
Alyssa looked in the mirror and gasped. The color of the dress, along with her dark hair, made her blue eyes stand out. The dress fit perfectly on her. It made her look beautiful, as compared to how plain she looked every other day. She smiled, thinking Halloween might be pretty good this year.
Now, on Halloween night, as she looked at herself in the mirror again, she couldn’t help but remember her dream the night before. It had puzzled her.
She had been in a field with Isabella, in their costumes. There were two men there, and they all seemed to be afraid of something. She was promising to protect Isabella, and then they were outside her house. Then, everything went black. She thought she had woken up, but she heard this voice, calling her name. But he wasn’t saying it right. He called her Elysia instead of Alyssa. After hearing the voice for a few minutes, she woke up.
She shook her head, trying to put the dream out of her mind. She looked over herself one more time before going downstairs to find her sister impatiently waiting. Alyssa smiled, took her sister’s hand, said goodbye to their parents and went outside.
After a few hours of trick-or-treating, Alyssa and Isabella were ready to head home. They had a long walk. They lived on the outskirts of town, and right now, they were in the middle of town. Alyssa was smiling and laughing with her sister, when out of nowhere, there came this blinding flash of light, and then an ear-shattering crash. Rain poured out of the sky, and lightening was striking harder and faster than Alyssa had ever seen it. She held tightly to Isabella’s hand, and pulled her sister into the nearest building. The lightening continued to strike, and the thunder was getting louder. The sisters were watching the storm from inside this store. Isabella started shaking, and Alyssa knew she had to calm her down. She turned away from the window, and saw that she had taken them into a bookstore. “Come on,” she said to Isabella. “We’ll sit down and I’ll read you a story. I have to call Mom first, though.” She had Isabella sit while she dug through her bag looking for her cell phone. She found it, but she had no reception because of the storm. She set it down, then went to find the shopkeeper. She looked up and down the aisles, and finally found him. He was an elderly man, but his brown eyes were young. She was puzzled for a moment, then remembered her task. “Excuse me, sir. Do you have a phone I could borrow? You see, because of the storm outside, I brought my little sister in here, and I don’t think we’ll be able to get home until it ends. I have to call my parents to let them know. I’m sorry, is it ok if we stay here?”
He smiled a warm, gentle smile. “Of course, dear. There’s a phone by the counter. Feel free to use it.”
“Thank you, sir.” She ran back to the counter, found the phone and dialed home. After a few minutes of convincing her mother that having Dad come get them wasn’t safe, she said goodbye and hung up. She looked at Isabella, smiled, and went to find something to read to her. She found a random book, and sat next to her sister. “Ready for a story?” Isabella nodded, and Alyssa began. “Once upon a time, there was a world called Surra.”
