The Curse: Part One

III

After shoplifting at a near drugstore, Solita decided to hitch-hike Greenfield and from there go on her way to Boston. She wasn’t too sure why she wanted to go Boston particularly. Maybe to visit the place where the Boston Tea Party was held, to reenact and see how it went. She wondered if anybody was killed. However, she wouldn’t dare to swing by Salem, which all she had to do was from Boston, hitch-hike on Route 99, turn to Route 60, and then turn to Route 107 and keep going north until she arrived to that town. It would be horribly to visit that town’s memories, where people were accused left to right of being witches and hanged at the gallows.

Solita wondered mildly if she would’ve been accused as a witch for her curse.

Before embarking on her journey, Solita broke into a house in outskirts of Bennington and robbed everything she supposed she needed. When she escaped the orphanage, all she had was the ratty clothing she wore now. She obviously needed more.

She snatched a black backpack from a closet and wandered into the bedrooms, guard up and pushing all sudden memories out. Solita found out the house belonged to an average New England family. She found the daughter’s room, who happened to be several years younger than her, and stole a few outfits of hers. Besides the fucking Hannah Montana shit for clothing, the clothes were not that bad and fit her perfectly, since Solita had a small figure. She gladly exchanged her ratty yellow dress for a black turtleneck and dark jeans. She wore a dark blue jacket with a grey coat over and put on black Cardy uggs, which she wasn’t so crazy about. At last, she finished the look off with a black newsboy hat. She stuffed some clothes in the backpack and wandered into the parent’s room.

She stayed on guard as she found the mother’s jewelry box and snatched a few valuable items here and there. She found what she hoped to be a 14 karat gold cross necklace and a black pearl ring. She stored them into one pocket of the backpack and also stole the father’s tie just for the hell of it.

Solita sneaked back downstairs and grabbed some fruit, peanut butter, and a small container of freshly baked cookies and stuffed them into the backpack. She also grabbed a few bottles of water and before leaving, quickly cooked a nice, warm breakfast and scarfed it down with some milk.

Satisfied, she left the house and made her way to the road.
