Break-up Friends

We were the best of friends for many years:

Laughing, telling secrets, sharing life's trials

And then one day her shining knight appears;

Before I know it, he's taken her miles

Away, and she has no more time for me.

He isolated her, became her world;

Blinded her to the dangerous debris

Falling around her as her life uncurled.

I saw it all, still couldn't prevent her fall.

He was bad for her but she didn't think so.

When he hurt her, she remembered to call.

I heard her sink and succumb to her woe.

Breakups may have broken the girl before,

But there's no man between us anymore.
