A little short piece I came up with after listening to Monsters by Matchbook Romance. Yeah it’s short, and its sucks, but I was tired. Read it anyways and then tell me how you liked it.

Oh, and I don’t own that part when it says, “With teeth ground sharp and eyes glowing red.” That belongs to the ever amazing Nightmare Before Christmas

Carry on reading, my lovelies.

Thunder and lightning erupted as one, and with the deafening sound of rain crashing against the glass window, it was child’s worse nightmare. The figure under the covers shook as thunder crackled again, sending shivers up her spine. She looked up at the shadows covering her blank ceiling and at the sinister branches looking back at her through her window.

“Oh, I really shouldn’t have let Nikolai talk me into watching that movie. I’m so scared that I can’t even think of sleep. Stupid monsters underneath the bed, you aren’t even real.” The girl spoke out, grunting after she was finished. She held her breath as she heard the sound of claws scratching at her hard wood floors, many fear ridden images playing in her head as she thought of what it could be.

“It’s probably just Matt chasing some mouse in the house.” She reassured herself, thinking of happy memories of her cat to chase away the fear induced images. She looked back at the brutal storm outside, seeing the branches turning into sharp claws and grabbing her by the neck twisting it until it snapped…She shook her head to rid herself of the terrifying illusions and closed her eyes.

Just as her eyes squeezed shut, she heard the chilling scratching noise again. This time it was louder than before, and seemed to be coming from underneath her bed. Her heart sped as she thought of the movie she and her brother watched only mere hours ago. Isn’t that how you heard them coming for you? When you hear them rake their claws against the ground?

She shook her head foolishly, “Monsters don’t exist under the bed; it’s just the movie playing tricks on me. Yeah, it’s just the stupid movie that Nik made me watch, it isn’t real.”

Creeping shadows and whispering voices played tricks on her mind as she tried so desperately to go to sleep, to slip into the dream world and forget all about her fears. Her eyes fluttered shut, slipping finally into the dream world when a chilling voice crept up her spine.

Jeniiiiiferrrrr….” The voice drew out the syllables of her name with a purr. Jenifer shivered with fear, trying to calming her racing heart by thinking of happy times.

Jennniiiiiiiifeerrrrrrr……Come play with us, Jennnniiiiiferrrrr.” Again the same purr filled voice played with her name, gripping Jenifer’s heart with a cold fear.

Jenifer evened out her heavy breathing, slowly in then slowly out. Her heart ripped with fear, as her body moved on its own to the side of the bed. She peered over the edge, her eyes searching for a creature that might be lurking in the dark. Her eyes found nothing, but her ears did.

Jeniiifeerrrrr…Did you come to play with us….? I see you Jeniiiiifffferrrrrr….” The same haunting voice crept into Jenifer’s ears, forcing her body to go slack with inhuman fear. Her lips trembled as she formed words that did not sound right on her eyes.

What are you?” She obviously asked the right question, because she heard laughter ring in her ears.

We, dear Jeniiifer, are the monsters underneath your bed. With teeth ground sharp and eyes glowing red. Saying you don’t believe in us was a very bad mistake. We are in fact very real and very hungry.” The voice purred out, scraping its claws against the hard wood floor again.

“We? There are more of y-you?” Jenifer asking, trying to mask the fear in her voice but fear still managed to creep into her voice.

Yesss, lots more. We live under all the beds, waiting for fresh meat. Naive meat, virgin meat…” It said laughing again, and this time deeper laughter followed after.

Jenifer swallowed, surely this was all but a dream? She squeezed her eyes shut, listening to the sound of sinister laughter, laughter she couldn’t escape.

Jeniiiiiferrrrrr….” Again that same voice purred out her name, like it loved drawing out the syllables. But this time it was closer to Jenifer’s ear, and she felt something sharp pierce her ear lobe. She screamed with terror as she realized that the same being under her bed was now pressed up against Jenifer, tasting her skin with a flickering tongue. She scrambled off the bed in haste, and onto the cold floor only to be pulled into another trap.

Sticky hands wrapped around her leg, and she caught sight of the red substance lining their arms. Its blood, she thought with terror. Jenifer screamed again, a blood curling scream that shook the walls but still the creatures didn’t let go. She tried to unhook herself from their grip as they started pulling her under the bed but one drew a yellowed claw down her spine, ripping the frail flesh.

You aren’t going anywhere, we are so starving and virgin meat always tastes better…” That same purr filled voice entered her mind again, filling her with overwhelming fear. Jenifer screamed again as she felt pain explode from her legs, like a raging fire spreading up her body. She looked back to realize that they broke off both her legs from the knee, and were chewing them like dogs. Jenifer felt herself growing dizzy from all the blood pouring out of her body, but she let out on last blood curling scream and a plea for help.

“NIKOLAI, PLEASE COME AND HELP ME! THE MONSTERS ARE REAL AND THEY ARE EATING ME ALIVE!!! NIKOLAI!!!” The monster’s laughed at her naïve plea, and continued to drag her bottom to the center of Hell.

Jenifer shook with horror, dragging her nails across the floor as they dragged her. A scorching fire rippled through her abdomen, and she turned back horrified to discover that they had ripped the skin and muscle completely off her ribs and spine. She opened her mouth to scream again, but a crimson hand covered her lips and a chilling voice entered her ear.

Stop struggling Jenii-kins, you’ll only make it harder on yourself. Do you want another piece of you flesh ripped off, because we are so starving and you flesh is delectable...” Jenifer shook her head no, tears now popping out her eyes.

That’s a good girl…” The creature whispered, licking the hollow of Jenifer’s neck before piercing the flesh with razor teeth. Jenifer bit back a scream as it lapped up her blood easily, making her see bright spots of color in her vision. She sobbed, blood dripping into her mouth as the creature lay a bloodied kiss upon her brow. Then it backed away with a wide smile, raking its claws down Jenifer’s body and pulling her under the bed completely with on last tug. She vainly tried to hook her claws in the wood, but her attempts failed as she was left to scream as the creatures pulled her into the darkness…

“Jenifer, wake up!! Jenifer!! You’re just having a nightmare!” Jenifer awoke with a gasp, sweat covering her body and her eyes fluttered to look up at the face above her.

“Nikolai?” She whispered, and then hooked her arms around his neck pulling him down for a tight hug. She cried tears of joy, filled with happiness that the horrifying actions she was forced to endure were all just a part of her nightmare. Nikolai stared at her strangely as she let him go, and looms over her with a question playing on his lips.

“What has you so happy? You never hug me like that, and why are you crying?” Jenifer smiled, reaching up her hand to brush a finger against Nikolai’s face.

“I had to most terrifying nightmare. I got eaten alive by the monsters underneath my bed, and when I tried to call for you help you didn’t come. I was so scared, Nik. And it was all because of that stupid movie you made me watch.” Nikolai smiled, and his worries flew away.

“It wasn’t that scary, and everyone knows that monster’s don’t exist under you bed. No go back to sleep Jenifer, its three o’clock in the morning and unlike some people I have school tomorrow. Goodnight.” Nikolai said, heading out her door with a smile on his lips.

“Goodnight Nikolai!” Jenifer replied as he shut the door, and flew back on her pillow with a happy sigh. She closed her eyes, and snuggled up into her covers, taking in their sweet scent. Her mind was drifting off into the dreamland again when she heard a familiar chilling voice purr out her name.

Jeniiiiiiifeerrrrrrrrr……”

And they said that monsters don’t exist under your bed.
