For Him
By Ani
POV: Third Person POV
Summary: The beginning of a total goodbye, from a guy she'd loved so dearly.
She tries not to stare, but she can't help it. There's this slight tinge of red on his cheeks, as he laughs again with one of their friends. She lifts a corner of her lips, as she watches him raise his hand and brush his hair back. His eyes glance over in her direction, and though flustered at being caught looking at him, she doesn't at all miss the the jerk of his own lips upward into a smirk. He holds her eyes for a moment before, leaving his friends and heading towards her.
He pulls her into this hug, a slightly longer than the norm hug, causing her heart to palpitate faster, her mind racing through several happy ending fantasies that she's gone through before. He's quite warm and soft and their hug is a comfortable one, unlike the many awkward ones with the guys her friends have re-introduced her too. She feels his heart in his chest and she stops breathing for a second to hear it more clearly, focusing. Its something she's always done with him, and he always scolded her before for not concentrating on her own breathing and heart.
He lets go too soon for her liking and slowly smiles that crooked grin, and she swears he can hear her heart splutter, because his grin becomes a soft smile on his lips, as he gazes down at her gently. Its moments like these, she thinks, that make her wish she could just step into his arms again and simply hold him. But alas, she cannot, so she takes the additional step needed backwards away from his leaning figure, to prevent herself from doing so. Because she thinks to herself, she's a big girl and she can look after herself and control such things lurking within her. Because she has to, not matter how tempted she is. And also because part of her has let go already and doesn't need him.
She swallows once and starts grinning at him, asking him the preliminary and polite 'how have you been?' and 'what have you been up to?' She listens intently, yet sets her faint interest facade up. She likes knowing how he is, focusing on the way he his hands move, and on his face - the face in which showed so much. She likes to know because they haven't talked to each other for a while, though they've seen each other on more than one occasion lately.
Unfortunately, and to her annoyance, her friends take the opportunity to interrupt him politely asking about her life as of current. She doesn't miss the way, her friends keep her in front of him, surrounding them from all sides. Or the way, a familiar arm slips around her shoulders and familiar head weight rests on her shoulder, the person standing from behind. She can smell this sweet musky scent and breathes it in. She doesn't turn her head towards him, she knows he's sizing up the HIM in her front of her and at the same time comforting her. She rolls her eyes, and raises her hand to slap his right cheek softly, always softly. He chuckles huskily in her ear releasing her from his grasp, but she feels the heat roll from his body as stays close to her from behind.
She watches as the boy in front of her, watches them, and she hopes he doesn't question it. She bites her lower lip frowning and turns around to berate the boy behind her, cheerfully beating him with her soft hands. He breaks out into a booming laugh, one that she loves best from him, and wraps his strong arms around her to prevent being beaten even more. Her friends, always the devious ones, look on with a knowing eyes, but also with faces of slight annoyance. They liked the way her eyes twinkled in happiness and yet, they knew it was not wholly there.
She introduces them then, the boy in front of her to the boy with the hand on her waist, their sides touching. They civilly acknowledge each other, and before she knows it, the boy with his hand on her waist, salutes the girls in his normal goodbye fashion making them giggle and smile, pulling her away from the small knit group. The boy she had been watching, stares after her now, and sends her off with small smile, and she can't help but note the tinge of sadness radiate from his person.
She's sure he's noticed her body shaking with his hand firm yet soft on her waist, and he pulls them flush against each together when they reach the small corner by the room. She shakes into him, and he holds her like that for a while. She closes her eyes tightly and repeats the sorrys into his chest, the chest she has now to lean into and be comforted by. He comforts her, and he's breaking her heart by doing this. He knows and she hates that, but loves him more for it, but it doesn't seem enough for her, for him. She wants to fall in love with him for it, but she cannot do that (not yet in any case but she hopes that she will soon), although he has already certainly done that for her.
Anxiety latches onto her, and she gently but urgently takes his face between her two small hands and places her face straight in his and asks him, "You know I love you right?" She's asked him that a million times, and he had always smiled at her softly, eyes full of strength, and she knew she could count on him for that. Strength for them both. She's talked it through with her best friends and she knows that falling in love and loving a person is two different things. She wants him to always know that, no matter her reactions to the other him.
He surprises her tonight by the blazing look of love on his face, in his eyes, and she doesn't feel devastated but loved and longed for. He brushes a curl of her hair back in its place behind her 'dainty' ear as he had once called it, and kisses her slightly parted lips in a soothing kiss. She's desperate for his touch and he obliges her that, putting a hand on the small of her back and the other behind her head deepening the kiss. She tangles her fingers in his hair marvelling at the softness of his lips against hers.
She surprises them both when she unexpectedly breathes brokenly into him shivering, something she's never done before, completely relaxed, focusing on how their kiss feels so right. He chuckles breathlessly moving his head away infinitesimally to look at her and he sparks hope in her heart and entire being then, and she knows with her heart and mind that she'll get over the other him now. Because of the guy in front of her. She smiles tentatively, as he grins at her realizing what he's done and how she feels, and lifts her up into the air spinning her around as if she were his whole world, their laughter intermingling in the night air.
For HIM.

The little things you do to me are taking me over
I wanna show you, everything inside of me
like a nervous heart that is crazy beatin'.
My feet are stuck here against the pavement
I wanna break free I wanna make it.
I'm sorry its taken me so long to find out what I'm feeling.
What I'm tryin' to say is that I'm feeling a change
and I let it take over. I don't want to lose you.
All you have to do is never ever let go.
My feelings show.
