He was the (hot) new guy, just a good piece of eye-candy. That was until he started singing to me. “I think you’re fine. You really blow my mind, I just want you to know I wanna’ be your Romeo…hey Juliet!” My name’s Robin, but who cares?! He wants to be my Romeo!
Hey Juliet!
“Robin, please tell me you’ve seen the new guy in our class?” my best friend Sasha cried as she flopped onto my sick, germ infested bed.
“Sash, in case you hadn’t noticed, I wasn’t in school today,” I said with my slightly clogged nose. Sasha wrinkled her nose and jumped off the bed.
“Gross, you’re right,” she said brushing herself. I rolled my eyes.
“Really now? Whatever happened to being sisters through thick and thin?” I asked dramatically.
“Hunny, this is not thin, this is skinny-anorexic thin and I’m so not going through skinny-anorexic thin with you.”
“You know, I really wonder why you’re my best friend.”
“We’re sisters through thick and thin, duh!” she said sitting down on my chair, my non-germ infested chair. I rolled my eyes and grinned.
“OK,” I said, remembering why she was here in the first place. “What were you telling me about the new guy?”
“He’s some serious eye-candy! He joined the track team today!” she squealed. Sasha was on the track team too. I got ready for the shrieks about his body. “His body is fab! Oh, you should have been there. When he stretched, phwoar, hotness or what?”
“I wouldn’t know…”
“He spoke to me you know!” she continued ignoring my comment. She added thoughtfully, “Well, he said sorry because he bumped into my accidently but that’s so not the point. I can’t wait for you to see him. You’re totally going to loose that feminist streak of yours and join us girls in the dark side.” Sasha rubbed her hands together and gave me a creepy grin.
“You should be glad that I’m used to that,” I said nodding to her smile. Sasha flashed me a grin, a sweeter one this time. “What’s this guys name anyway?”
“Walker Smith,” Sasha replied her gaze dreamy.
“Walker,” I said. “Walker. Walker.” I familiarised myself with the name. I had never met a Walker before.
“Isn’t it a dreamy name?” she asked me. I rolled my eyes again and got out of bed. My legs had gone numb again.
“Owwie!” I cried hitting my legs. Sasha snapped out of her daze and raised an eyebrow in my direction. “Pins and needles!” Sasha just laughed while I jumped around the room.

I had been away from school for two days and it seemed as though I was months behind on school work. I don’t think I had ever been as thankful to hear the bell for the end of the day ring. I grabbed my books and rushed out of class. It wasn’t a very good day; I had missed the Walker three times by a matter of seconds. I only saw his hand – he held the door for someone – but it was a nice hand, so it wasn’t all too bad. I was so stressed with school I had forgotten about him completely by the end of the day.
Robin, make sure you come to the bleachers and wait until I finish practice. You’re my ride, remember that!

I crumpled the note that was left on my locker door. That was all I was to her, a ride! Hmph. I grinned at my own joke and spun the dial on my door. I stared at the three textbooks and three notebooks I had to carry. I was starting to reject squealing over the fact that I was in AP classes.
I put my bag over my shoulder and rolled up my sleeves, literally. I stacked up all the books onto one pile. I picked them up all at once, bad move because I nearly toppled over. I steadied myself and closed the door to my locker using my shoulder. Those were times I actually thanked God or evolution for giving me shoulders.
“I know an AP class that gives too much work, too much work, too much work. I know an AP class that gives too much work…” I sang to myself as I walked down the deserted hallway to the field. I heard footsteps behind me but there were always a couple of people left after school so I didn’t feel too freaked out about it – unlike the first time I stayed behind after school. A girl in the freshman year scared two years out of me.
When I got out to the bleachers, I noticed that there were more girls that usual. They had shorter skirts than usual and more make-up than usual. There was probably only one reason for that; Walker.
I dropped my books down and I searched the field for bright red hair. Sasha was easy to spot out in crowds. Her whole family were easy spot; all beautiful red heads. I stuck two fingers in my mouth and whistled. Sasha looked towards the bleachers and spotted me. The other members of the team looked too I waved at them all – they were used to me whistling for Sasha’s attention – and a few waved back. I blew a kiss to Sasha which she mockingly took and threw away. I grinned and gave her thumbs up. I sat down on the bleachers and stuck my iPod into my ears and took out my favourite book; Jane Eyre. A mother from London meant I had good connections with great novels. About an hour later Sasha came bundling up the bleachers. She was flushed and out of breath. I pulled my headphones out of my ears.
“Robin! Thanks for coming,” Sasha said breathing heavily. “Luke Skywalker’s here.” Sasha had her eyebrows raised.
Luke Skywalker? I thought. A couple of seconds later I worked out that she meant Walker. Luke SkyWALKER. Duh.
“Oh,” I said nodding and winking. “007 receiving loud and clear.” Sasha glared at me while I hung my head in shame all the while grinning.
“Don’t you want to see him?” she asked me. I shrugged. Guys were really in my list of things to do before high school.
“Meh.”
“Meh?” Sasha echoed incredulously. “Is that all you’re going to say? Give me more than your regular caveman talk!”
“Sasha!” a voice called out from behind her. Sasha turned her head while I moved my head to the left a little. There was a guy standing at the foot of the bleachers. I noticed all the girls discreetly moving towards us. The guy started to make his way up to us. I noticed Sasha glow a little.
“Hey Walker,” she said breathlessly.
Ah, the famous Walker.
I looked at him properly and, I swear, I drooled. Now, I wasn’t normally the kind of girl that went gaga over a guy, but this guy was different. He had incredibly curly hair, complete with ringlets too, and dark gray eyes. He was something else.
“You left your water bottle on the track,” he said smiling. He handed the bottle over to Sasha. He turned his attention to me and smiled. Now, even though I had melted brain in my ears and, well, head, I managed to smile back like a normal person.
“Oh,” Sasha said realising he was waiting to be introduced. “Mind my manners. This is my best friend and soul sister Robin Davies. Robin, this is Walker, he’s the new guy in our class.”
“Nice to meet you,” he said putting out his hand.
“Hi, nice to meet you,” I said shaking his outstretched hand. “I didn’t see you in homeroom.”
“Yeah, I was getting my classes sorted, there was a mix-up yesterday.” I nodded. I had my timetable messed up a few times.
“I’d better go, I have babysitting duties.” He cringed and we laughed. “Bye ladies. I’ll see you around Robin, Sasha.”
“Bye,” we chorused. As soon as he was out of earshot, the whispers and glares started coming from the groups of girls around us. I shot them a fierce look and they backed off a little.
“He so likes you!” Sasha cried grinning madly. So like her…
“How exactly does he like me? And why are you so happy don’t you like him too?”
“Yeah, so what? He likes you better, so as long as it’s not one of them-” she said jabbing her thumb at the retreating girls. “-he goes out with, I’m fine and he likes you because he was waiting to be introduced. He could’ve easily just smiled politely and walked off but he didn’t. And he said your name first!” I raised an eyebrow confused. “He said ‘bye Robin, pause, Sasha.”
I laughed at her guy voice. “You’re out of your mind,” I said shaking my head.
“You’ll see my dear little friend, you’ll see.”

A week later and I still didn’t see what Sasha saw. Walker didn’t really speak to me much after the conversation at practice. I would go pick Sasha up and he’d give me a smile and a wave that I would return. Other than a few hellos and smiles at school, that was all the contact we ever had.
I had just come out of a particularly bad maths lesson; my teacher had shouted at me and I barely scraped a C on my quiz, all in all it wasn’t a very good morning. I slammed my locker door shut and stormed to lunch. On my way I saw Rudolf - yes Rudolf - Mesmer and his little group of wannabes pushing a freshman boy around. It was so typical of Rudolf. I stormed up to them.
“Hey!” I barked. I’m happy to say that they all jumped. I swear I heard a squeak from Rudolf. It wasn’t the first time I had put Rudolf in his place.
“Hello Robin,” Rudolf said sweetly. “Henry and I were just having a conversation with each other, right?” I could blatantly see Rudolf put pressure on Henry’s shoulder. Henry on cue nodded weakly.
“Really? OK then, bye,” I said pretending to turn around. In a blink of an eye I turned around and punched Rudolf in the gut. Rudolf let go of Henry and doubled over. I pulled Henry next to me.
“You touch this kid again and I will personally make sure you have no chance of ever reproducing!” I shrieked in his ear. “HEAR ME?!”
“Yeah,” he coughed out. I turned to his friends who backed away when I faced them.
“That goes for you too!” I shouted. “Go.” None of them moved. “NOW!” They all scurried away helping Rudolf as they ran. Thankfully there was no one around to see me have that fit.
I took a deep breath and faced the little Henry. Henry looked a little scared. I took a step towards him and he took one back. I grinned at him which eased the tension a little.
“They’re idiots. All of them. My name’s Robin, I’m a senior. If anyone bugs you, come to me.” I stuck out my hand which Henry took eagerly.
“Sure, sure! I have to go tell my friends! See you around!” he shouted running off with his enormous bag hitting into his back.
Remember to remind him why we had lockers, I thought shaking my head.
I felt a lot happier and lighter. My mother was right I needed to invest in a punching bag. I continued the rest of the hallway and as I turned the corner I bumped into someone. I didn’t even bother to look at them and snap; instead I apologised and continued to Lunch.
That afternoon I was still in a good mood. I even offered to sit after school and watch Sasha practice. She was a little shocked but didn’t question it. I guessed that she was happy to see me in a really good mood for once.
Once training was over I saw Sasha talking to Walker. She had a massive grin on her face and she nodded happily. My eyebrows raised a little. It looked as though he asked her out and she had agreed. I wasn’t jealous or anything, I had barely spoken to the guy but Sasha had been talking non-stop about a guy she met at a coffee place, he worked there and they had hit it off. Sasha waved at me and mouthed two minutes. I nodded and looked back at my book.
I heard whispers around me and giggling. I assumed that some of the guys had taken their shirts off to cool down. Sasha texted me to come down to the locker room. She had never told me to come there, she just texted me to meet her at the car or at the parking lot. I frowned by complied.
“What’s up?” I asked her as she came out of the girls changing rooms. Sasha giggled hysterically. “Are you OK?”
“Me? Of course. Now I have check on something so follow me,” she said going back into the room.
Odd…
I went in and watched as she looked around the room nervously. I raised an eyebrow at her.
“Are you sure you need to check something in here?” I asked laughing a little.
“Yes!” she cried out. She cleared her throat. “I mean, of course. Hmm, I have to check um-” Sasha’s phone rang once and stopped, she didn’t even check who it was. “OK all done!” she said grinning happily. “Let’s go!”
“You didn’t even check for something in the gym,” I noted. Sasha just shrugged. “You’re acting really weirdly,” I stated as we linked arms. As we walked to the parking lot I saw a group of girls crowding around a car. I squinted my eyes.
“Hey! That’s my car!” I cried walking over to the girls. “Move!” I snapped to the girls, who parted silently. Some of them were grinning at me but some were glaring. I frowned at them. It was only then I noticed Walker sitting on the roof of my car with a girl, she was grinning and holding a guitar.
“Now,” he said to the girl. She started playing a few chords. Why did that sound so familiar? I thought.
“Hey I've been watching you
Every little thing you do
Every time I see you pass
In my homeroom class, makes my heart beat fast
I've tried to page you twice
But I see you roll your eyes
Wish I could make it real
But your lips are sealed, that ain't no big deal
'Cause I know you really want me
I hear your friends talk about me
So why you trying to do without me
When you got me
Where you want me,” Walker was singing to me! To me! His gaze was fixed on mine the entire time and I just couldn’t look away. He looked so cute singing.
“Hey Juliet,
I think you're fine
You really blow my mind
Maybe someday, you and me can run away
I just want you to know
I wanna be your Romeo
Hey Juliet,” he finished off. He really did have a good singing voice. The girls clapped when he had finished. Why did that remind me so much Heath Ledger from 10 Things I Hate About You?
“So, what’d you say Juliet?” he asked me hopefully. I gazed up at him in a daze.
“My name’s Robin,” I said dreamily. He threw his head back and laughed. I saw Sasha grinning at me from the side. Walker held out a hand and I got up on to my car too. The girl with the guitar jumped down.
“I saw what you did for Henry. It’s true; I have been watching every little thing you do.”
“How-” I started.
“I watched you from round the corner, you looked like you had everything under control but I did give Rudolf another punch in the eye-”
That’s how he got his black eye!
“-and you even bumped into me but didn’t even realise.”
“That was you?” I asked surprised.
“Yeah,” he replied.
“Kiss her!” One of the girls shouted. There were a couple of cheers of agreement. Walker grinned and put his hand on the back of my neck, I put a finger on his lips.
“This better not leave a dent on my car,” I warned him before he pulled my finger away and kissed me.
Ten minutes and there was definitely a dent left on there...oh not like that you sickos! Honestly. -wink-
I’ve always wanted to do an oneshot with that song in it!! I know the worst thing a author will ever do is hate on their own work, but I REALLY don't like the way I ended that off, but I just couldnt think of another way to end it without dragging it on for too long. That was a little bit of my own rant/review. =D
Disclaimer – I don’t own any movies, song, or real-life people mentioned in the story e.g. Heath ledger.
So, you might have noticed that I made a Heath Ledger comment in the story; yes it was done on purpose. The story is supposed to be a fun read for you, a steam-burner for me (I've been doing too much revision) and a little tribute to him. R.I.P Heath Ledger.
Hope you liked it and thanks for reading! :D
Hopelessly Cliché
