we fall asleep to
crickets and cool
darkness, his chest
and mine rising
steady, falling
surely like the
tides of the pacific.
we wake like
puzzle pieces,
fitting together
in every possible
combination, all
arms and legs
and deep breaths
in warm dawn
light.
