Chapter 4: Family.
A/N: YOU GET THE DRILL! Different pov's. Don't worry though, it'll all melt into one pov within a couple of chapters. ;)
She couldn’t remember running so fast in her life. Her mother trailed behind her snarling menacingly, muttering curses and ‘promises’ to her. The mother poised above the young girl ready to strike, “Don’t worry darling, it’ll only hurt a bit…,” she promised.
The small girl bolted away from her mother attempting to reach her father yelling, “Daddy! Mommy’s trying to hurt me!”
The father came out of the house, gun drawn as he scanned the area for his daughter’s mother. “Yuki, just keep running dear, don’t look behind you!”
“Why?” she yelled, a minute too late as the sound of a gunshot penetrated her ears.
All that the young girl heard next were the cries of her mother, and then an agonized howl as the next bullet was fired, blood splattering everywhere.
Her father came up behind her and picked the girl up, wrapping his arms protectively around her. “That’s why darling.”
She nodded, tears streaming down her face, making a silent vow to herself. This is what she wanted to be; the Hunter, and to hunt for what was right and ethical and to be exactly like her hero.
I shook my head trying to rid my head of that memory; it was something I didn’t want to remember. My own mother was a vampire and my father killed her. Years ago they accomplished the impossible and joined together in marriage and then had a child, me. Many people believe that humans and vampires couldn’t ‘breed,’ but my dad and mom proved them wrong. In a way, I think he always knew that my mother couldn’t handle being around me for long. I remember when I was a child whenever I would get hurt or something she would leave the room; I don’t blame her, she just couldn’t control herself that’s all.
My dad spoke, “Yuki, what’re you thinking of?”
“About how that same gun you’re holding right now is the one that killed mom…”
Fumbling with the gun dad murmured, “I did it to protect you, you were my child.”
“What about mom? Wasn’t there a better way to restrain her?”
Dad’s voice raised and he practically yelled, “There wasn’t enough time! I was caught up with getting my only daughter out of her grasp alive.”
“Well that plan sure worked out great, now I’m here as a vampire anyways.”
Gripping the gun even tighter, my dad yelled in my face, “Yeah, I see that! Right now, I want to know what happened and by God, you better not lie or everyone involved will regret it.”
Sitting on the ground I began my story, “Well, after you ‘vanished’ and I thought you were dead, I took off with Gerard. What I didn’t know what that the Bloodhounds were after me and they held me hostage for a year in their prison Emporia. A while back I broke out of Emporia and I was lost until John found me.”
Dad interrupted, “Who is this John character and how does Gerard fit into all of this?”
“John is my…uh…”
“Uh does not constitute as an answer.”
“Fine, John is the man I love with all my heart and I would do anything for him at any given moment.”
“You guys date?”
“I wouldn’t call running away from the Bloodhounds and the Hunters everyday dating.”
“But you two love each other?”
“Exactly.”
“I must talk to this fellow to see if he is adequate enough for my daughter.”
Blushing deeply I said, “Dad, don’t. I love him, that’s all that should matter to you.”
Glancing at me sideways my dad spoke seriously and said, “Is he a vampire?”
“Yeah…and he’s Gerard’s brother, but I didn’t know any of that until I got to know him.”
Shaking his head my dad laughed. “I will never get what it is with you and vampires.” He waved his hand in the air and continued, “Now how does Gerard fit into this?”
“Well Gerard is part of the reason I was stuck in Emporia.” Seeing my dad tense up I hurried to correct myself. “Wait! Don’t be mad at him. He did it to save John. He was on the wrong side for a while, but then I got through to him and he is back on our team now.”
“Are you sure? I don’t have a problem killing Gerard; he was annoying to me anyways, always trying to impress me.”
“He tried to impress you because you nearly killed him the first time you met him!”
Chuckling darkly, Dad shook his head. “I didn’t mean to, it was out of habit. Plus, he was almost all over you, which should’ve been illegal.”
“Anyways, I’m not with him anymore. After I left Emporia and John found me I stayed at his house for a while getting things sorted out.” Looking at my dad’s expression I laughed, “No silly, not like that. I have not had sex with him. Anyways, the Bloodhounds came to bother us because John tracked us down. The Hunters also came with them saying something about how I would be powerful if I became one of them. I didn’t get what they really meant until now.”
“What did you do after the Hunters came?”
“Well, to tell you the truth, John and I fled to your safe house. Once we got there, I met up with another person I thought was dead, Matt. We stayed there for a while and I discovered my old best friend was a werewolf.”
“Old best friend? Aren’t you two still close?”
Looking down at the ground I began tracing a pattern. “We would be if he didn’t die…”
“What happened?”
“I got captured again, and Matt and John knew that our plan to take down Emporia would be put into action right then. Gerard busted me out of there and after that John, Matt, Gerard, and I had an all our war with the Bloodhounds. Matt got hurt really bad and he…he asked me to take his pain away. There was no way we could heal him, so I listened to him and…I shot him. Dad, it was horrible.”
My dad, who was usually so composed and collected actually reached over and hugged me. “It’s okay, you did what was right.”
“I know I did. After that, another vampire came and attempted to kill me... Well, I don’t know what happened exactly. I remember just being in pain for a while I saw Matt again. He told me that I had a choice, to die and be with him or live and be with John… I went back to John. When I woke up, I was a vampire. Nobody knows how it happened. John says he respected my wishes and didn’t bite me, but I don’t know how else I could’ve changed; it’s just odd.”
Nodding, my dad looked off into the woods, “Is there any reason as to why you’re out here and not with John right now?”
“I’m getting rid of all the other Bloodhound covens. I needed to do this alone. John and Gerard are on their way now. My guess is that they’re about a couple hours away.”
My dad looked at me curiously. “You said you left alone, how do you know where they are?”
I got up from the hard ground, dusting myself off. “I got these…powers of sorts.”
“That doesn’t make sense at all.”
“Well, I don’t feel like telling you, you’ll find out all in due time.”
My dad got up also, less gracefully. It was irritating really; I was able to pick out faults in a person right off the bat. I wondered if this was how John and Gerard were and did they grow out of it. Dad stared at me long and hard, then finally said in his gruff voice, “There’s something else you came for wasn’t it?”
Rubbing the back of my neck, I mumbled, “I came to find you too.”
“You thought I was dead.” He stated.
“Yeah, I thought you were dead, but Matt told me otherwise. He had two premonitions before I became a vampire. Knowing Matt for as long as I have, I’m going to take them seriously.” I scoffed. “If you think I would just lie down and be good while my dad is out there somewhere you have been sadly mistaken.”
I began walking away from my dad, my bubbling rage overriding what I wanted to ask him. If he wanted to be stubborn well so could I. Before I got too far Dad’s hand grabbed mine, “Hey, obviously you came to find me for a reason, what is it?”
“Is it so hard for you to believe that I wanted to find you just because you’re my father?” Yanking away from my dad I stalked off at a surprisingly normal pace.
Behind me I heard a gun cartridge being loaded. “Yes, actually it is. Before I left you said you hated me and wish I would die. Who’s to say that you aren’t here to kill me?”
Spinning around I glared at my dad hatefully. “I would never kill my family; never would I stoop that low. What I really wanted to ask you was if you wanted to join me to eliminate all the other Bloodhound covens? I’m getting closer and closer to the Hunters, but I know I can’t take them on alone. I wanted the most famous and best vampire hunter to join me. I guess now I’ll just go on alone.”
My dad glanced between me and the gun. He seemed to be debating whether or not to shoot me. I guess he had reason; an angry vampire who he had reason that I might kill him. “I guess I’ll come with you, might as well, no other action going on.”
He lowered his gun and I let out a sigh of relief. “Thanks Dad.”
Smirking a little he fell into step beside me, “No problem. Now about this boy…”
Groaning, I said, “It’s nothing Dad, don’t worry.”
We continued off in a playful argument about my choices in men. At least this trip wouldn’t be boring, now I just had to wait on John and Gerard.
