I.
Control
What she weighs
What she eats
What she wears
Who she meets
They style of her hair
and the shoes on her feet
The music in her ears
And especially what she eats
'Cause she's too fat
She's too thin
There's no right
She can't win.
The magazines say
She could look like that
Hipbones out and
tummy flat.
Just drop those pounds
They'll call it ten
Those stick-like girls
could be her again.
So she doesn't eat
She's not hungry, she says
And she wastes away
For another day.
Just keep control
Lose your soul
Empty stomach to be thin
But then again, it's in.

II.
Control
Who are friends
Who is cool
They've got cars
they skip school.
And even though she knows it's wrong
She's dying to belong.
So she drinks up
Chills out
Goes to parties
Hides her doubt.
Keeps these friends,
can't go without.
Just keep control
Lose your soul
Piece of cake
They'd watch her break.

III.
Control
Who she flirts with
Who she dates
Who she'll kiss
And who can wait!
She chooses one guy
at first he seems great
but soon she wonders
is it love or hate?
He invited her to dinner
She was a bit late for the meal
At the table he screams,
"What is your deal?!"
She's kind of surprised
she stumbles and stutters
he rolls his eyes
he mocks her and mutters.
She puts on a smile
but she's kind of scared
Even though after he finished
He told her he cared.
Just keep control
Lose your soul.
Say sorry for the fight
He loves her…right?

IV.
But this control
is wearing thin
she can't find the person
She's supposed to have been.
She can't find the girl
Who knew who she was
in her place there's the girl
Who does things because
she's afraid saying no
will make her seem weak.
Her partying friends
will think she's a geek.
She's frozen by fear
that if she were fat,
not one boy anymore
would like her like that.
She's scared if she speaks up
If she finally yells back,
That boyfriend that loves her
might give her a smack.
But most of all she's afraid
of losing control
so instead she does nothing
and loses her soul.
Too late she realizes,
she's long lost control
And all of her fears
have almost swallowed her whole.

V.
But she's knows she can change it.
The future's not stone
So she stands up straighter
and picks up the phone.
"We're over," she says
to the boy who yells on a whim
and before he can threaten,
she hangs up on him.
The next time she's called up
to go and get high,
she just says no thanks
and tells them goodbye.
But the hardest thing
is getting rid of self-doubt
even though she reads the mags
and thinks, "What is this all about?"
So she says, "I'm beautiful,"
in the mirror, right to her face.
Because she knew all along
That this was the case.
"I'm beautiful," she says,
and she's reached her goal.
She smiles at herself:
She's regained her control.
