“Demon CRISIS”

Prelude

Dried tears hung from the young woman’s face. She had her eyes closed, thinking how she already missed her parents. She let go a heavy sigh trying to calm herself some more.

Well it’s not like I have a choice anyway. Besides, I can go to visit them once in a while. At least, I can study what I really want at the ‘Imagina Institute’. Who would have thought that in the end I would drop Law School? Her thoughts stopped for a moment to glance at the airplane’s window as the sun caught her attention.

The sky was painted in a beautiful light blue adorned with fluffy and soft clouds that made the scene seem more carefree that it already was. The day was clear and the sun passed through the transparent window with ease. This is my new start as a professional, I think.

Another audible sigh came out from her. I can’t believe I have being transferred to another city by my own parents. Now I have to live with someone I barely know by photo in his unknown home, in a city I have never being before. At least, Adrian is cute enough for me to enjoy the view. She giggled for herself thinking in her future roommate. Hope we get along. It would be really annoying and stressful if not. Suddenly her mind shift to show her a familiar face with rebellious red hair paired up with dark green eyes. She remembered. Keane. How I am gonna miss you! We were the perfect team! I can’t believe mom split us just because a rookie is coming. The previous anger she felt when she was informed about the transfer came back.

Everything happened so fast. They were at the movies just finishing an action film they both wanted to see when they got the e-mail calling for their presence at the main office.

Hey, I got a mail from dad, saying that they want to see us at the office.” The girl with dark hair said looking at her black thin cell phone.

I got one too,” answered the boy with red hair. “I guess we should get going then.”

No! We haven’t had dinner yet.”

But they are using the company’s name; it means it’s from work.”

So? They did not type ‘urgent’ on the mail so I think we can at least have dinner. I told them that I would go to the movies with you. They should know that we are going back after we eat.” She said in a stubborn voice.

They are gonna get mad at us. More me than you, you know.”

Don’t worry, I’ll tell dad that it was my idea,” she waited with puppy eyes trying to convince her partner. She smiled when he gave up with a long sigh, “besides, where is the difference? Office or not, he says he wants to see us, I don’t think the place matters.” The couple started to walk down the street looking for a place where they could dine. She took her cell phone out to type an e-mail replying that they will meet them at home.

Only you can say that,” he confessed remembering her position as the daughter of the owners of the company.

Hey, I worked very hard convincing my parents so they would let me work for them! It was not easy, you know!”

Of course. If my daughter was to ask me the same, I would definitely say no. This job is rather dangerous,” he told her with a sincere voice. He still could not understand why she would like to work in this ‘headhunter company’.

But the pay is good,” she pointed out.

And you want to buy a lot of things,” he finished the sentence for her.

Indeed. But only to buy things my dad won’t. He is just too close-minded.” She stopped. “How about we have pasta?”

He saw her pulling his arm to the Italian Restaurant with a significant shine in her eyes. He smiled in defeat. “Sure.”

It was around ten when they arrived to her house, all lights on showing them that her parents were waiting for them. She opened the front door with her key. They went to the living room where the T.V. had no rest from her father’s constant zapping. Her mother was on the other corner of the room reading one of her favorite books.

I’m home! Keane is with me,” she announced catching her parents attention.

Good evening,” Keane greeted eyeing how his friend went to sit down on the chocolate brown couch that was near them.

Hello, Keane! Take a seat,” welcomed the woman in her mid forties although she did not looked like one, “would you like something to drink?”

No, thanks. We just ate before coming here.”

Took you long enough,” spoke a manly voice finally turning off the T.V. Her father had his serious-grumpy face as always.

I’m sorry, sir.”

Dad, don’t bug him. It was me who forced him to have dinner with me,” his daughter spoke as she extended her arm to reach the remote control. “He wanted to come right away after receiving the e-mail.”

Les, please turn off the T.V. There are some issues we have to discuss with you two,” her mom asked seeing how she turned it on.

She noticed the serious tone on her mother’s voice. “OK.”

Why are you always so indulgent with your mother?!” her father asked annoyed of the usual behavior of her daughter who always likes to challenge him.

Because she asks nicely. You always try to order people around you.” Her answer was short and direct. Not to mention honest.

Seeing her husband starting to fume she decided to speak, “Please you two. Don’t start fighting again.” She looked at Keane who blinked. “Now, we want both of you take this in a professional way. Remember that this discussion is from work.”

Les eyes closed slightly sensing something she would not like. She looked at her father who was still on the couch in front of them sitting now with her mother.

Maybe she should go to the dining room,” her mother suggested sensing the wariness from her daughter. The boy next to her daughter was silent, waiting. Her husband was silent too.

Does the place matter, mom?”

I’m not sure. Keane, what about you?”

I’m OK here, ma’am,” he replied.

She laughed a little, “please don’t call me like that, it makes me feel old. Just call me Ran or Mrs. Lee as you are use to.”

I’m sorry. Mrs. Lee.” He saw Les giggling at his left.

OK then. The thing we wanted to talk you two is about the new location of your jobs. Both of you are being transferred to another city and you will have new partners to work with.” She stopped for a second watching the faces of the young people in front of her. Both of them in shock, she continued before they could speak against her, or rather before her daughter began telling what was on her mind, “this action is a necessity, if not we would not be doing this. Keane will go to the South part of the city where he will train a new girl we have found. Being you one of our most experienced worker this is a request we are doing just like we did with Les. While you Les, will go to the North. The situation is pretty bad that is why we have decided to add two more teams to the city so each pair can have full control of their areas. The demons in the city have increased alarmingly and the North area is the biggest one. Your new partner has talent and experience. Adding your ability, we think you two will be just fine.”

“Your attention please--”

Les’ mind came back to the present as the flying attendant announced that they would be landing in some minutes. She turned off her ipod and waited patiently as the plane landed with no problems to the ground.

Once on the airport, she took her cell phone out and called Adrian’s number that her mother gave her as she waited for her luggage to come out. The phone began to ring and she was getting nervous by each ringing but she didn’t even know why. It only rang three times before someone picked it up.

“Hello?” answered a smooth voice.

“Hi, I’m Les Lee. Are you Adrian?”

“Yes, I am. How was your flight?”

“It was good. Right now I’m waiting for my luggage to come out so I can meet you.”

“OK, that’s cool. I’m at the first coffee shop you’ll see when you come out. I will be waiting for you there.”

“OK, see you then.”

“Bye.”

“OK that wasn’t that bad, I guess. So far so good,” the black haired girl said once she put her phone away so she could gather her luggage and go out.

Hope you guys have enjoyed this. Just a crazy idea I got after drawing Les, she looked cool in her battle outfit and a story was born by watching my draw. Please leave me a comment or review so I can know if this story is worth writing =)
