Boy Meets Boy The Unconventional Way
(00) Prologue: Beyond the Dream
[From A Distance]
"I don't think he'll ever wake up..."
"Madam, please, his mother seems to think he will waken soon, as does his family..."
"I don't care, his mother is under a lot of emotional stress and doesn't know what's good for her right now."
"Madam, you have no jurisdiction over this young man, I must ask you to leave."
"I am family as well, I will not leave!"
"Must I cal security? This is a private ward, I don't even know how you got back here!"
"Fine, I'm going."
The woman leaves and Dr. Kaine sighed deeply in remorse, looking at the comatose boy before him.
"You had better wake up soon, son, there are people worried about you…. You've been here for too many years now, it's your 21st birthday soon, you need to wake up and live your life outside, not in a dream..." The doctor said, gazing at his long time patient and turning to leave the room. He looked up to see his son standing quietly in the doorway, smiling sadly at his father.
"Talking to him again, Dad?" He asked, walking over to the bed.
"You caught me..." Jonas looked up at his 20 year-old son who came to the hospital at least twice a week to visit him. But his son always came for other reasons he believed.
"So, Alex, how are you today? How’s school?" He asked, taking a chair from the wall and sitting in it next to the bed, where his son sat.
Alex gazed lovingly at the black-haired boy asleep before him. Alex knew him from school, he was there when the boy collapsed and didn’t wake up. That was almost five years ago.
"School's good, I talked to Derek, he wants to get the guys back together and start up the band again, you know, with Damon and Kaiser and Jamie..." Alex answered, looking at his dad smiling. He smiled back at his son and looked at the clock.
"Well, I'll see you over the weekend then? Your mom's cooking up a feast for Halloween this year." Dr. Kaine said, giving his son a hug and pulling away.
"Yeah, I'll call Derek and bring him with me, and maybe the guys too." Alex said.
"Sure, sure! That'd be great! It'll be good to see them all again, and I think Derek might be a little reluctant though, you know?" He said, looking at the patient again.
"I know, ever since... Ever since this happened, him and Jamie seemed to avoid everyone." Alex said, lightly stroking the boy's hand.
"Alex, if anyone can get Derek to get home, it's you my boy. And Jamie is his cousin right?" Kaine asked, nodding to the boy again.
"Yeah..."
"Well, I'll see you soon then, good-bye son. And you too Angel." And the doctor left the room.
Alex sighed, looking at his old classmate. His dad was completely clueless sometimes. He had no idea the real reason behind his visits to see one of his many patients. Alex had known Angel from high school, so many years ago. Why, Alex had actually fallen in love with him, but never got to tell him, because of an incident that ended with Angel falling into a coma. Their school's football team attacked him because, well, let's just say he had a reputation for being the biggest playboy in school and got the quarterback's girlfriend at a party one night. He found out and came after Angel, he got to him before Alex did. They beat him until he lay unconscious in an alley in the rain and Alex had found him and brought him to the hospital where his father worked.
There was a whole lawsuit against the school and the team, brought on by Angel's family. Hell, even some of his family from overseas came and joined in the fight. No one really knew what kind of family Angel came from until his father and mother stepped out of a black limousine in front of the school one day with three of the best lawyers in the states. No one connected him to Morgan and Korbel families.
"Angel Daemeon Korbel-Morgan...please wake-up soon... I love you." Alex whispered softly in his ear.
He pulled away and kissed Angel's slightly warm lips. There was a spike on the heart monitor, telling Alex that Angel knew he was there. He's been coming to visit Angel every week for five years and the monitor always does that when Alex was close to him.
"Good-bye for now, my sleeping beauty..." And he left the hospital with tears filling his eyes.
There was a soft whisper in the room. A Nurse had come in and opened the window a little to let in the cool ocean breeze. It was a sunny day and you could see the ocean on the horizon. She looked back at the boy and smiles sadly; she's watched as well, just like her boss and friend, Dr. Kaine and his son, Alex Kaine.
"Everyone misses you, Mr. Morgan, especially that young man that visits you all the time." She said warmly before leaving the room.
