Narrator: Ood. 2342. An advanced civilization beyond the expectations of twenty first century thinkers. Not simply complex technology or medicine, but humans. Superhuman powers characterize the communities of Ood. This caste system is defined in childhood as young humans realize and embrace their powers, be they mental or physical advantages. Those with mental powers, like telekinesis, medicinal healing, regeneration or various other psychic powers, are considered supreme in the city of Ood. Immediately below them are those born with physical powers: extreme strength, superhuman breath, night vision, Herculean speed are among the most common. It is not a question of whether one might be blessed with a power; it is which shall be chosen. It’s almost unheard of to be unblessed in this modern world, rumors of it float from land to land with the flux of the ocean’s unforgiving tides. Ood is a glorious city, renowned for its architecture and big businesses, with no room for powerless humans. Jupiter is one such man. He lives alone, without family or friends, in an ancient, run down shack on the edge of Ood; this actually used to be the home of one of the richest families in all of Italy, back when the world was just discovering touch screen computers, biofuel vehicles and nuclear warfare in the twenty first century. Here he must live the miserable existence of an outcast, while the rest of civilization flourishes in its own brilliance. On this particular day, April 8, Jupiter decides to attend mass for the city of Ood, a new form of religion where everyone comes to the center of the city to listen to the preachings of Valasia, High Priestess of Ood. Today was to be different than the daily sermons, however.
