SECTION THE LAST: Congrats, you made it to the end! And if you’ve read all thirteen sections of this guide, you deserve a cookie. Really, get up and get one right now. But I’m hoping you understand the importance of “good grammar” now because it’ll help you down the road. Wait until you have to write an angry letter to your local congressman.

By the way, the title of this guide’s final section was inspired by Mark Twain’s Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. I find “Chapter the Last” to be a captivating and memorable chapter title.

Now that this is over, let me give you a few books that I found helpful. I’ve also used these books to help me write the examples and articulate the rules better. (The first three are HIGHLY recommended if you want to write or wish to pursue a career teaching English.)

~Mignon Fogarty’s Grammar Girl’s Quick and Dirty Tips for Better Writing,

~William White, Jr. and E.B. Strunk’s The Elements of Style.

~Howard Mittelmark and Sandra Newman’s How Not to Write a Novel: 200 Classical Mistakes and How to Avoid Them--a Misstep-by-Misstep Guide.

~I kind of wish I were more into journalism to suggest a decent book for the style of such prose. But just you wait. I’ll find such a book one of these days.

~Also, don’t ask me anything about poetry. I can neither write it nor read it. I’m so terrible at poetry that I can’t even analyze my own poems. I’ll edit and critique your fictional prose (nonfiction if you catch me on a good day), but don’t come to me with poetry.
