A young man called on a young lady’s house
To give her an amethyst ring
The young lady smiled and said that from him
A gift was cherished thing
The same young man invited the lady
To come to a ball and sing
But most of all he requested of her
To wear the amethyst ring
The night of the ball as the young lady sang
A partner to dance all would bring
But if just for a moment the gaze of all
Would fall on the amethyst ring
One day the lad visited the lady
Vowing forever to be her king
On the day of the wedding she took great care
To wear the amethyst ring
He carried her into their lovely new home
As a king often does for his queen
And the night of the wedding she took him to bed
Wearing only the amethyst ring
