Aftermath

The battle is over now.

The land reeks of rotting corpses

And the air itself is black with smoke.

The earth is stained.

Spots of bright red seem to be emerging

Like determined specks of life

Struggling through the dead; the past

In an attempt to restore beauty.

But the blood that was shed

And the lives that were lost

Will remain forever as fragments of war

Buried beneath the surface.

All is silent.
