Ten years, it had been ten years since they’d first met, and it was driving her insane. All the thoughts of how she loved him and how he’d never realize it, and if he did, he was too nice to do anything that would make her uncomfortable. She couldn’t take it anymore, if college meant escaping her town, it meant escaping her friends as well. It was two minutes of looking at a picture of Los Angeles and she knew what she had to do. Walking over to her coffee table she picked up the pile of papers that lay beneath her high school year book. She flipped through them and came across papers labeled “Chicago Centre Apartments.” She threw it onto her couch and continued flipping. She came across her acceptance letter to IADT and pulled it out. It was merely seconds before she felt herself ripping it to pieces, shortly followed by the apartment overview. Her heart began to race and she grabbed her acceptance letters from FIDM and USC. She smiled for the first time since he told her that he was going to try doing the long distance thing with his girlfriend. Two months ago. She grabbed her keys and cell phone before walking out the door and texting the words “It’s decided” to her sister.
Nick stood awkwardly in the doorway to apartment number 3b with a woman in her forties, waiting for Magen to arrive. She was ten minutes late, but the person he saw approaching them was not Magen; it was her sister approaching with a sad smile on her face.
“Where’s Magen?” He asked immediately, his stomach had dropped at the site of Kaylynn, knowing something wasn’t right with Magen just dropping this arrangement.
“She’s gone Nick, I’m just here to tell you she’s changed her number and that she won’t be able to rent this apartment with you, and as for going to school here, she’s changed her mind.” Kaylynn was unable to pretend that she wasn’t proud of her sister for taking charge of her life for once. Hell it had been four years since she remembered Magen truly being happy about a decision she had made, and it was about damn time that Nick stopped thinking she’d always be there for him when he never was for her. But she couldn’t help but feel a little sorry for the boy in front of her as he stood there like a lost puppy.
It was a few moments before Nick could come up with anything intelligent to say and so instead he opted for looking to the lady who held the contract and gave her a small shake of his head and she harrumphed and shut the door to the apartment and locking it.
“I’m sorry she didn’t tell you Nick, but she did ask me to give you this,” Kaylynn said and handed him a large envelope with Magen’s neat scrawling on the flap. He took it from her and looked at the envelope with confusion etched across his features. “I’ll see you around Nick.” He watched as Kaylynn walked back down the hall before falling to the floor against the wall and fingering the envelope. He shook it lightly and got a whiff of her perfume, causing a small smile to make its way to his face. He opened the envelope carefully and looked inside. There was a small piece of paper with three words. He pulled it out and stopped when he saw the sentence. His breath caught in his throat and he slowly lipped the words. “I loved you” the paper read. He felt his stomach drop when he realized the chance he’d been waiting for had passed by so many years ago.
AUTHOR"S NOTE:
Okay everyone, so this is a new story for the time being while my room is being painted because the chapters for "Another Statistic" are on my computer, and currently it is under a bunch of plastic and unplugged. It's rather sad really but I guess it's about time I ditched the flower wall paper seeing as I'm turning eighteen soon and how embarressing would it be to bring home your college boyfriend and having flowers all over your wall? Pretty mortifying I believe.
Anyways, this was definitely a spur of the moment story, which actually started out as something I wished I could do but then I realized I couldn't ever leave him so it's basically a dream of mine. So anywho, this story is semi-based off reality and semi-fiction so of course, I'd love to hear reviews and oppinions on my part-life. Haha. But yes, I'm sure most of you stopped reading the note a while ago, so I do believe I will end it now. Muchas gracias!
