The Dish and the Spoon
So the dish said to the poor little spoon,
"Will you run with me, we'll be out of here soon."
And the poor little spoon said back to the dish,
"Yes, my dear friend, whatever you wish."
So the dish took the spoon,
They ran under the moon,
They ran all day and they ran all night,
They had to get out; they knew this was right.
They had been gone no more than an hour,
When the dish bent down to sniff at a flower,
The poor little spoon, so mislead was she,
She couldn't smell the flower, no matter how sweet.
The dish admired her silver, he was jealous of her,
But he never told her; because he wasn't sure,
Her deepest secret, the spoon admired his clay,
She didn't dare; she'd never say.
So the dish and the spoon ran like never before,
Running 'til they couldn't see home anymore,
And when the tides sprang up to drown the moon,
The only ones safe were said dish and said spoon.
They jumped for joy, how happy they were!
They had gotten away with their lives, they were sure,
So they made their new lives on a new shelf and drawer,
Away from that house, but inside the store.
And the so is the tale of the dish and the spoon,
Running away 'neath the cow and the moon.
