This scene takes place right after the ending of “Everyman”.
Doctor: And behold! What is this our Lord of mercy intends?
Permitting us to spy how Everyman transcends!
He doth allow in a manner most merry
Us to witness the Judgment of the quarry.
[Enter God and Everyman]
God: What incurable scum is this,
Resting at the feet of my righteous rod?
I hath no time for this serpent’s hiss!
Be gone with thee and your earthly façade,
There is no seat for you in this celestial squad!
Everyman: What infallibility have you spied,
My most gracious and ever-loving Lord and Guide?
My will in this life was ye to serve,
Your teachings to follow and readily observe.
Now I am at your mercy and command
I beseech ye forsaketh me not to that cursed land!
God: I perceive it impossible to decide
Another path for you, creature of gluttonous pride!
Thrice the time hath ye denied my name
In your sinful ways of wrath and lechery.
I see no correctable way this wronging to tame,
Your acts are the worst kind of perfidious treachery.
Everyman: I beseech thee mine Lord, ever so high!
Forgive me my trespasses, however awry!
I hath you in greatest form acclaimed,
Worshipped and praised and proclaimed!
God: Your intelligence insults my holy mind,
Your soul is weary and ill-comprised.
I bid thee, at once leave my sight
Before I spit up my dinner of tonight.
Woe is your soul forever doomed,
To Hell you are sent, for eternity entombed!
Everyman: But Good Deeds is here for me to attest –
God: Shut ye mouth, damnable pest,
Let the fires of eternity consume you now!
They will feast on your flesh, so nigh I do vow!
[Everyman is sent to flaming pit of Hell]
