Epilogue
“Hey Rhia, Hey Nic, Hey Bradin.”
Rhian turned away from her boyfriend and smiled as her best friend walked over to them. Jeremy sat down on the hallway floor across from Rhian and Nic and leaned back against the lockers. “How’re you guys doing?”
“Are you going to ask us that every day?” Nic asked as he raised an eyebrow.
“Maybe,” Jeremy replied and smirked. He chuckled to himself. “I’m just making sure that you guys aren’t fighting.”
Bradin snorted and laughed a little bit. “They fight all the time, but the way that they make up is even worse to watch.” He nudged his sister teasingly. “How many of those colorful condoms have you used?”
“Shut up man!” Nic shouted, his face turning a little bit red. “We haven’t used any!”
“Oh, well, maybe you-“
“Bradin! Just shut up!” Rhian shrieked, shoving her brother also. He fell onto the floor, laughing his head off. “Ignore him Jeremy, he’s psycho.” She finished her sentence with a twirl of her finger next to her head. “We always fight.” Rhian pointed out with a light shake of her head. “But we’re going to try not to do something stupid whenever we do get into a fight.”
“So, you guys have made up? Over everything?” Jeremy asked to make sure.
“Dude, you’re going crazy; everything that we did was months ago.” Nic started as he rolled his eyes. “Move on, the rest of us have.”
“Has Millie?”
Rhian winced.
Ever since Millie had pretty much lost everything, she moved to another school and from what Rhian has heard she started back up on her old habits. Fortunately, people had quickly figured out that she was a liar and she was outcasted at that school. No one knows if she had moved away again, or if she stuck it out. They all want to believe the rumors that are going around instead. That’s the problem with high school, people would rather believe lies if the truth isn’t as ‘juicy’.
“I choose not to think about her,” Rhian replied with a heavy sigh. “I mean, I know that she had a soft side, but apparently she chose to show her other side more.”
“Ok, onto another topic, how are your parents doing?”
Rhian’s eyes lit up. “Dad is doing great. His business is continuously growing bigger and wealthier. I know he loves mom but wasn’t happy with her, but I don’t think that he’s going to be going out for a while.” She paused, making sure and then nodded to justify herself. “And then mom is doing great too. She started her own company of make-up and its selling fast. I think she’ll become rich on her own.”
“Well, that’s good.” Jeremy smiled encouragingly. “It’s a good thing to know that they’re working things out and aren’t the kind of parents that are bitter and hateful towards each other.”
“They get enough of that from us.” Bradin stated and looked up at the ceiling as the bell rang, signaling them to go to their next class. He pushed himself up off of the ground. “I’ll see you guys. C’mon Rhia, we have History.”
“Coming.” Rhian replied and kissed Nic on the cheek. “I’ll see you later.”
“Bye.” Nic smiled as Rhian started to get up but couldn’t move because he was holding onto her hand. “Don’t you have to go to class?”
“I would if you let go.” Rhian replied.
“Correct me if I’m wrong, but you’re holding onto me too.” Nic replied and suddenly looked shy as he lowered his voice. “I love you, you know.”
“I love you too.” Rhian rolled her eyes as she blushed, forcing Nic’s hand off of hers. “I’m going to be late to class.”
Nic finally let go of her hand and Rhian gave a little wave before turning and starting to walk away….moments before tripping over a forgotten backpack in the hallway.
“What the-“she got up and looked at it. When she recognized it as Bradin’s her hands clenched into fists and started to shake.
Further down the hall, Bradin jumped, as if the backpack was him and he turned around. Seeing the look on Rhian’s face, he winced. “I forgot my backpack again didn’t I?”
“BRADIN!” She roared. “How many times have I told you stop leaving your backpack lying around?”
“Uh, twice.” He replied and started to run.
“I’M GOING TO KILL YOU!” Rhian screeched and ran after him.
Nic and Jeremy laughed as they watched the twins run away. “Should we help him?” Jeremy asked as he turned to Nic.
“Nah,” Nic replied, shaking his head as he pulled his backpack onto his shoulders. “It’s better him than us. And trust me, if you tried to stop her, she’ll go after you.”
“Good to know.”
