"Ellen?"
No answer.
"Ellen?"
"Ugh... five more minutes..." I rolled over, pulling my covers up to my chin.
"Ellen!"
I opened my eyes to see my dad standing over me. "Dad? What's going on?"
"There isn't any time to explain, hon," my mom, who was standing behind my dad, said, "But you need to get up now."
I sat up, noticing for the first time that my dad was holding Jeff, my brother, who was sleeping. "Are we... going somewhere?" I didn't remember planning a vacation. The air seemed tense, and my mom looked like she was fighting tears.
"Not exactly." My dad said, leading me down the hall to his room. I was confused; what was going on?
We walked into their room, and passed the large, ornately-framed mirror. Dad opened up the closet door. "Get in."
"Huh?" I asked. A load thump sounded at the front door, followed by a muffled shouting. "Who's that?" I asked.
"Just hide. Now." My dad's voice was strained.
But what-" At that piont, the front door flew open with a bang. My dad wordlessly pushed me into the closet, along with Jeff, who was still sleeping. He kicked the door almost closed, so that I could see everything through a crack.
The bedroom door flew open to expose a man, holding a gun. He was big, with black hair and brown eyes that looked almost red. "You two!" he bellowed, "On the ground! Now!"
My parents both dropped to the floor. "Why are you doing this?" My mom sobbed.
"You deserve it!" He yelled.
"We do not." My dad said in a calm voice.
"I'm going to KILL YOU!" His voice shook.
"If you were going to kill us," my dad said in the same measured, reasonable tone, "You would have done it by now." He walked slowly toward the man, his hand outstreched. He grabbed the gun by the muzzle. "You don't want to do this."
"I do." The man said, his voice no longer shaking. He pulled the trigger, and with a bang my dad's hand was replaced with a fountain of scarlet. Blood pumped from his wrist and covered the walls. Jeff woke up, I put my hand over his mouth to keep him from screaming. The man tilted the gun and shot my dad in the chest. He dropped like a stone, twiched twice, and then was still.
My mom sobbed. "Shut up shup up SHUT UP!" The man screeched, pumping bullets into her. The sobbing stopped.
The man stared at the gun. "There's... one bullet left." He said, then put the muzzle of the gun in his mouth and fired. His body toppled backward, sliding down the mirror and leaving a streak of blood behind. He landed facing the mirror, so I could see his face.
Everything faded away... I couldn't hear the dripping blood, my brother's screams... nothing mattered except that evil face, reflected in the mirror. Slowly, his lips moved... "Ellen," the corpse croaked, "I'm comiing for you..."
I woke up screaming.
