The Life And Death Of An Anti-Hero

-

I loved you, that much is true

But I never saw us, together forever

I’m not one to tell too many lies

And in my heart of hearts – I know I tried – to make it work

But when it hit a snag I’ll admit – I jumped ship first

-

Now I never felt the need to fulfil some heroic deed

Just to catch you eye

I didn’t love you that much anyway

I’d rather lose you than die today

I’m not much – but I am me

-

I never wanted to go down with the ship

I’m just not that brave

And whose to say that I’m in the wrong

If our roles were reversed

Could you accept that your fate is cursed

-

Now I never felt the need to fulfil some heroic deed

Just to catch you eye

I didn’t love you that much anyway

I’d rather lose you than die today

I’m not much – but I am me

-

Who are you to lay the blame

Would you go down in flames too

If I were you and you were me

Just so your epitaph could say that you died well

I don’t subscribe to that line of thought
