Summary: Tiny slice-of-life inspired by a true event in my brother’s middle school.

The middle-schoolers gathered around the small girl, Rebecca, who was talking animatedly to them, her red hair whipping about her cheeks as she spun her head to look at her friends.

She was telling a story about how her cat had attacked her can of Pepsi when she had opened it. She was speaking very fast, some of her words flowing together; half-way through the story, one of her best friends held up her hands.

Rebecca looked at her friend with a puzzled expression.

“What?”

The other girl almost looked embarrassed and whispered her next words.

“You’re lisping again.”

Rebecca looked at her friend and scrunched her forehead, then said quite passionately:

“That’th ridiculouth, I don’t have a lithp.”
