i had to write an unusual love poem for a poetry class so i wrote about my love of books

Entice Me

The stink of the fire escapes.
I inhale deeply, enjoying the burn
Of soot and flames.
The cases are filled
With the smell of the pages.
I know when I reach to touch them
They will be soft and tired with age.
But they call to me
Some yelling and screaming
While others quietly entice.
‘Come closer, you know
What beautiful secrets I keep.’
The chair by the fire reminds me
Of his fluff and comfort
And days spent napping in
Other worlds.
One tentative step
And I fall prey to the irresistible draw
Of lands outside my own.
They call again.
My finger drifts down
The binding.
I side the beauty out
And fall to the chair’s
Desperate wishes.
A contented sigh releases from
The book’s excited pages as
The fire cackles at my lack of will.

yay! please review!!
