Follies of the Youth

by Reggie

3/5/2009

It is ashame

completely ashame

more shame than blame

Those boys, our so-called future

utterly in disaster

Everyday they prick and pry

tugging against wisdom and knowledge

the keys to successful living

the power to live their lives in freedom

Each day they cuss and push

against those who seek only to love

to help, to educate, to guide, to admonish

Refusing to submit, to learn, to respect

those who only wish their future a good one

Against the teacher, they challenge

Refusing to respect and learn

they rather see him perish

because he will let them in their folly

remain, seeking to move them to the way of the wise

Against the dedicated, they slay with words

No regard for self or others

their words are harsh, their mouths are sewers

they are quick to fight, confront, to tease

they are slow to learn, to desire truth, to listen

They contend with the one who prays for their soul

who intercedes to He who keeps them from death

And yet, their folly persists

They quarrel with each other

slandering both their mouths and lives

they only seek to use force

to have their way, to go beyond a child's way

they relish chaos and love to kill

with their actions and words

and yet, in the end, claim they are innocent

I tell you the truth

their folly has not gone without sight

the One they swear to shall judge them

No matter youth or elder, punishments awaits

special or general, education matters not

the Law of the Lord is clear

a foolish son is shameful to his parents

and grief to the one who bore him

The foolish boy who rejects authority

despises and tempts the Lord of all

the boy who resist knowledge and wisdom

despises life and his own breath

the one who embraces evil as truth

despises even his own conscience as well as his tongue

the foolish boy who raises his fist at authority

digs his own grave, so deep none shall find it

Such one, or company, is an abomination to the Lord

His anger burns like fire on a candle's wick

His wrath sites and lies in wait for them

like a lion pouncing steadily on his prey

surely, young or older, the fires of Hell

never discriminate, nor do they tire

The foolish boy shall perish in his folly

his own evil shall be his demise

In the end, the Lord shall be His witness

to sure death and destruction

Unless the Lord chooses to have mercy and grace

that soul that sins against Him shall perish

Woe is the one who is without the Lord's grace

His eternal salvation

For the folly of the fool is in his own heart

his destruction will be upon his own head
