The darkness of night cannot cloak the animated neon billboards stretching emphatically outwards from the towering skyscrapers. It is night, yet the streets are still busy like it was day. Purposeful footsteps stampede past me, almost taunting my lack of missionary direction like theirs. I cannot distinguish voices from the blurry hum of life and activity flowing through my ears. As though I am invisible, the city folks scurry around me, being careful not to make contact without seeming impolite, lest I interrupt the everlasting continuum of their movement. Engulfed in this tactfully emotionless atmosphere, I can only intake short breaths of cold, stony air. Stars no longer populate the night sky, yet I still feel overwhelmed and insignificant as when they did. Powerless, I stand, humbly aware of the microscopic role I play in this lively, yet spiritless, metropolis.
