Orange

Orange is the color of us.
Behind me.
Chase’s whisper-like voice
melts through my ears.
Soft warmness tickles my heart.
I turn, trying to grab him,
to bring him close to me,
to inhale in his essence.
But he merely slips
through my fingers
Away he melts into the waves.
All I am left with is
a sweet sensation of
Yearning.

I feel like I am singing on the stars.
He is back again.
This time he is in front.
His tender fingers run
across my ears,
Toward me they bring
a foreign atmosphere.
Melancholy?
Hope?
Too difficult to comprehend.
Yet then he speaks.
When his rich, creamy voice
smothers my ears,
Nothing else matters.
Enveloping my heart
in his presence
I lean to breathe in his
Pastel aura.

Sometimes I don’t hear what he says.
Because I am so dowsed
in the sea of his
orange yoghurty timbre.
Underwater,
Where all you hear
are the blurred murmurs
of waves and the beating of your
own heart.
He knows. But
he continues just the same,
so I am filled by his vocal gifts.
He knows I listen
not with my ears but with the
Whole of me. Not
what he says,
But him.
