Eyes watering like volatile faucets,

Uncontrolled feet, trudging forward.

Arctic explorers, lost in pursuit,

Or polar bears hunting sustenance.

Our venture is unnecessary,

Possibly frivolous, but our feet

Keep moving as untethered horses

Trample grass beneath their feet.

The ice is al most heated with its cold,

Our cheeks reddened and sweat forming

From the sheer effort

Of staying warm.

It seems impractical that we

Should peel our gloves off and face the numbing air

In order to grasp each others' fingers

And faces and kiss the frozen lips

On this outdoor adventure of ours.
