The soft patter of rain on the roof

Sounds like a soothing lullaby

The ambient of night is less sinister and silent

A song sung by nature to soothe the soul

-

The streets and sidewalks are slick with sweat

Flowers and plants perspire shiny dew

The humid air is warm and damp

Wet roads reflect the glow of light

-

The insomniac's wakefulness put to rest

The incessant cries of a child lulled to naught

The roar and rumble of cars on the highway

Replaced by the gentle murmuring of the clouds

-

All is enveloped in a black blanket

Shrouded in darkness, the earth is cleansed

The droplets carry the dirt and grime

Leaving behind a pure and sparkling shine
